Do you do it?
At what age do you teach kids to start washing negel vasser, if not?
June 24, 2015 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #1090490Jewish ThinkerParticipantChazon Ish held even infants should do it, I believe. (The mother or someone else pours the water on them, obviously)
June 24, 2015 7:09 pm at 7:09 pm #1090491Torah613TorahParticipantInteresting. I was wondering what the source for doing it was.
How do you do it with smaller babies, though? I’ve done it once or twice but it always results in a soaking wet baby.
June 24, 2015 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm #1090492MDGParticipantI did it with my babies, but not with a cup. I used running water in the kitchen sink and held their hands out.
June 24, 2015 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1090493🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantI held the baby in front of me, his back to my belly, with my arm across him and leaning him forward a bit so he extended his arms into the sink. I then used the other hand to dump water on his hands alternatingly, not worrying so much about the exact coverage, just the best approximation I could do.
June 24, 2015 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm #1090495bb8ParticipantI had 4 girls that were all jaundice and went under the ultraviolet lights then when my son was born he too was jaundice I was worried about the bris!
a little old frum lady who I didn’t know came to visit me at the hospital and told me wash the baby negel vassar and everthing will be fine.
sure enough no lights and the bris was on time !!!
June 25, 2015 1:54 am at 1:54 am #1090496Little FroggieParticipantWe try to do it every day. We were makpid with all of ours children, from just about day 1.
How I do it? I place infant on my lap, criss-cross his/her hands and hold them together with one hand in correct position, so I generally aim right on. We’re not so fussy about opening her fists if she’d make one, though.
Problem is when they get older, they always want me to wash them “the funny way”!
June 25, 2015 2:45 am at 2:45 am #1090497Torah613TorahParticipantInteresting about the jaundice.
Thanks everyone, I had no idea it was so widespread.
I thought people did it to accustom their children to feeling tahor… did I make that up?
June 25, 2015 3:50 am at 3:50 am #1090498popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’ve never heard of this before today.
Do people also dunk their baby in the mikva?
June 25, 2015 6:02 am at 6:02 am #1090499MDGParticipantI first saw about this in the Ben Ish Hai. I think I’ve seen it in other sefarim.
June 25, 2015 7:45 am at 7:45 am #1090500ExcellenceParticipantThe Chazon Ish had his hands washed from when he was a month old I read
June 25, 2015 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm #1090501popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo do we pasken like the chazon ish’s mother? What else did she do?
June 25, 2015 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm #1090502Jewish ThinkerParticipantRebbetzin Kanievsky also did it. It is in the Artscroll Book page 443
June 25, 2015 3:39 pm at 3:39 pm #1090503Reb not RabbiMemberSteipler supposedly said if one washes babies hands negel vasser properly every single day, then Bris will be on time. (I have had nurses in delivery room help me wash when it was getting close to shkiah)
June 25, 2015 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #1090504☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo people also dunk their baby in the mikva?
Just make sure to tell him not to close his eyes too tight so it shouldn’t be a chatzitzah.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a source for that.
