Hey guys, can we please not forget about the monster who plowed through a parade in Waukesha, WI?! I know the media decided it doesn’t matter that a man who showed animosity towards white people decided to kill a bunch of them, but I think it matters. Why are they hiding the motive? I know you’ve heard this 100 times before but what if the roles were reversed? We all know that if a white supremacist had plowed through a group of black people we would never hear the end of it, the media talk of nothing else and try to attribute his crime to systemic racism. I think this incident also begs the question: Why in the world did they let him out having known about all the other crimes he committed?!?!

Your insect about the racial bias part. Our country is apathetic to violent crime regardless of race. The media sells whatever they can. Nobody forces you to accept it.

I’m with u on that. it’s horrible and horrific, but being a frum jew, my heart is with our people in pain.

    B_T OP: You’re 100% correct.

N0mesorah- Wrong. There are plenty of violent and non violent crimes that get a ton of media attention and are mentioned frequently in political debate. Now that it’s a black man who used his social media to support BLM, (and Hitler by the way) it’s forgotten.

Theshadchandays- I agree that my heart is with our people in pain but that doesn’t stop me from pointing out a double standard between the media coverage of white and black criminals. Honestly, as Jews we see double standards in the media concerning us. (Covid precautions, Israeli-Arab Conflict etc.)

    Ujm- Thanks! πŸ˜€

B_T: i definitely hear your point. it’s pretty obvious that America is backwards country (it’s the truth!) in terms of our policies. But what can we do? that’s life and we have to stand up for ourselves.

    Dear Bored,

Let me explain. There is violent crime in this country all the time. Some get completely ignored. Some are covered endlessly. The majority are news for as little as an hour, up to a few days. What makes one story stick around, is the narrative around the story. If it fits with the daily news narrative, it gets more attention. That depends on timing more than anything else. There have been cars panning into crowds in this country dozens of times. The only one that was a major national story, was a famous person whose life had fallen apart. I think it happened around when I was born.

A little tip. If you want to understand how bias figures into what makes the news cycle, look at advertising trends. Not political rhetoric. On that note, whatever the topic is you’ll understand it better if you ignore the partisan yammering.

a person is a monster only to those who oppose him politically

if you agree with his motives, the person is at worst a bit “overenthusiastic”

virtually no one ever does something that they regard as evil

which is why we need to be wary of those whose idea of being evil does NOT include killing people like us

“A person is a monster only to those who do oppose him politically.”

Maybe post that to the thread about accusing the innocent and see how it goes over.

    Bored,

Nobody forgot about it. Nobody is hiding anything.

    What do you want?

That there should be a headline in the media everyday about it?

There should be a news article everyday with no updates?

    There is nothing going on.

He is guilty and going to rot in prison.

Currently, he is in jail following an initial court appearance.

Regarding why they initially let him out – welcome to the US justice system where only people who are convicted of a crime are supposed to be in jail.
Bail is not meant to keep non-convicted poor people behind bars.

    #2046032

jackk – I hear your point but I think you are just being defensive. She didn’t say she wants daily updates and changing her words to that misses her point. We never even got a motive. You may say so what. Okay, go ahead. But that never happens. Biden never called or visited. That is very unusual. when 6 kids are in the hospital for a WEEK after a car deliberately plows into a Xmas parade? Be honest. if it wasn’t a complaint against biden would you really be saying this is all status quo? c’mon man.

“Bail is not meant to keep non-convicted poor people behind bars.”
please, for the sake of my believing you aren’t one of those posters who spins everything into a pretzel, this wasn’t an issue of helping poor people. The man had driven over his girlfriend with his car. that would probably qualify him as dangerous by anyone’s standards. Treating him as a “poor person” is putting the public in harms way. I did not think that that was what bail reform was for.

This thread spooks me out. Have we as a country reached the point, where murder is less of an evil, than how the news presents it?

    #2046087

I don’t think that was what the thread was about. Murder isn’t less of an evil than how the news presents it, the news, and apparently even the president, will ignore evil unless it fits their narrative. That to me is much more spooky.

    #2046088

akuperma- not even sure where that fits in here. A monster is someone with no regard for human life/suffering. It isn’t political, not even sure if this guy votes. That may be true when non monsters are called monsters due to politics. But when someone like this is called a monster, how can that be political?

    Dear Syag,

I do not understand. The killer is being prosecuted. Who cares how the media presents it? Why does the President have to comment on any violent crime?

Jackk- When a white supremacist rammed a car through a group of people it was a huge story. Every Republican was told to condemn it and it became the topic of so many debates. And yes, they are hiding it. Tell us the motive! You guys have spent almost a year talking about the Capitol riot and the effects that politicians rhetoric had on it but barely any time on the BLM riots which killed a 30 and resulted in $2 billion in damage. My point is that you guys like to put a lot of focus on crimes that push your narrative but ignore victims who have been hurt by people who support your ideology.

Which brings me to my next point:

N0mesorah- I obviously think that every murder is awful and horrific but nothing I say will change or have an effect on it. It is disgusting to see the media write headlines about how β€œan SUV plowed through a group of people” rather than holding the person behind the wheel accountable. Also, when Jacob Blake, an armed man was justifiably shot by the police, Joe Biden went down to visit him and his family. Yet when A community is shook by this heinous crime he β€œdoesn’t have the resources” to go visit?! Please!
β€œ Who cares”: I do! Why do we talk about any political issues?!? Who cares about them?!?!

    Bored,

It was a huge story when it happened.
There is nothing going on currently.
    What is there to debate?
Whatever doesn’t show up on your news or social media , that means it is being hidden?
The only one who knows the motive in Waukesha is Darrell Brooks. How am I supposed to know it?

The capitol riots are current news because there is new information constantly being revealed.
The rioters that are caught and thrown into jail are in the news.

“US GUYS” ? Do you care about democracy?
Republicans want to bury their heads in the sand after an orchestrated attack on the capitol and a plan to steal the election from Joe Biden that almost destroyed our democracy.
There is no US GUYS and YOU GUYS. That is a false narrative.
Riots are bad whether they are from BLM or the Proud boys.

Don’t make deductions from what Biden does or doesn’t do on what he feels is important.
Those deductions are the craziness that right wing talk show hosts spew all day long.

    Dear Bored,

The car ramming was not the story in Charlottesville. I forgot that part of it. A lot of what the imagery that was displayed, was thought to be almost obsolete in this country. Maybe you got too caught up in the silly competing narratives of the last few years,.

If you find yourself consistently outraged about the media, then That is a signal for you to go figure it out. Maybe try getting a small role in a major news institution. It really sounds like you do not get any of this.

    Dear Bored,

Well actually, we went through the Jacob Blake story on these very pages. I’ll just tell you that I could have dealt with him better than those wimps. Whether the officer was unaware of the situation, or untrained, or a rotten apple, is irrelevant. Since then, the local police union made some ridiculous statements, and it is an all around bad look for the Department. Problem is that Kinosha is not a large enough city to bring in a new Chief of Police who will insist on enforcing the law. Now I wandered too much.

Let’s just say that your understanding of the incident was correct. That was not why it was such a big deal. It was because after some high profile police killings, Blake was still alive. [The media was hoping for some statement that could be spun into a narrative. All he said was that he is in a lot of pain and it was not worth it. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚] Both Trump and Biden came to town. Neither one was there to calm down the city. Or to console the people. Or some other fluff. They came because they were on the campaign trail. And the fist rule is you go where the tv cameras are.

    Dear Bored,

If you really care about the politics of the issues, you would certainly know that none of this matters. The only difference in the narrative, is which cable network makes more money. And If you really care about the narrative, in ahead and make your own! These air heads on tv do not know more than you. And they are even worse at forming opinions.

    Dear Bored,

A President simply does not have the resources to visit after every calamity. There are simply to many of them. And the country is too big. When was the last time a President visited Alaska? Hawaii? Maine? Did you expect the President to visit after the shooting in Jersey City? You could compare this to the Boston Marathon Bombing. Or to Sandy Hook. But I’m not convinced that Biden should see it that way. Or that he would go visit in those instances, either.

β€œ The only one who knows the motive in Waukesha is Darrell Brooks.”
Generally after a crime occurs, police establish a motive. There has been no information on what they concluded.

β€œ Republicans want to bury their heads in the sand”
To my knowledge most Republicans have condemned the riot and those who haven’t are ridiculous!

β€œ Riots are bad whether they are from BLM or the Proud boys.”
    πŸ‘πŸ‘ AGREED! πŸ‘πŸ‘

β€œ Don’t make deductions from what Biden does or doesn’t do on what he feels is important.”
Are you saying that his actions are disconnected from his beliefs?!

By the way Jackk, I believe Trump lost the election. (Was there voter fraud? Maybe. Enough to turn over the election? NO.) I think that his rhetoric after the election wasn’t ok and was very harmful! The people who broke into the capital are idiots and criminals! Just making sure you don’t mistake me for one of those wacko right wing conspiracy theorists! 😊
