which is more personal/conveys a closeness (can’t think of a dif way to say it), saying hi to s/o because you nearly collided in the halls or waving hi across a room? i’m asking more between opposite genders rather than two of the same gender.
if i see someone of the female persuasion and the situation dictates that i say hi then i say it. if it dictates that i wave hi then i wave. if it dictates that i do both i do both. if neither…neither. get the picture?
In your example waving is more personal because you are acknowledging that person from far away instead being forced into sayng hi while almost colliding.
If I see someone of the opposite gender that it would be awkward not to acknowledge, yet the setting makes a greeting equally awkward, I just sort of nod.
