Challah cover
I like things that will be used and not take up space so how about
A silver challah knife or as was said a challah cover or a crystal wine decantor w matching small glasses to use after kidish to pour in wine to family and or guests
as a newly married, i can tell you what gets used and what goes straight into the closet!
we use: silver mezuzah holder, silver napkin holder, and i have some vases and serving bowls displayed nicely in the breakfront
in the closet and we never use: large serving trays (we’re not having that many guests yet), extra challah covers & shabbas tablecloths (we got a ton so we just use one, and the rest are away)
the nicest gift we got was a silver picture frame. even while we hadn’t really gone through our wedding proofs yet, i picked one nice picture to put in this frame. i’m sure you can buy a bunch of these for not so much $. the person also got it engraved with our initials, which was a nice personal touch.
gift card. that’s the best b/c the kallah/chosson can choose whatever they like
Silver is very expensive but there are very pretty items in the Judaica store that can be appropriate for wedding gifts. There are beautiful washing cups, even those that come with towels, there are challah trays, beautiful mezuzah covers that are not silver, candle lighters, etc.
Step out of the box and be creative.
A silver mezuzah is never wrong to give.
You can get a beautiful wodden plaque for their door with their last name engraved on it.
they make beautiful glass plaques with the name engraved as well.
a toaster, an urn, a microwave, a hand mixer, an iron, soap, or best of all CASH.
