Sefardim do. Other than that, the Minhag of Ashkenazim is to not get married during the 3 weeks.

    #1092139

sfardim eat kitniyos on pesach, ashkenazim don’t

    #1092141

I thought you were making a joke that they start slichos early because they got married. But I didn’t get what the kitniyos would mean. Unless it wasn’t a joke….

No, Sephardim, do not get married during the 3 weeks. Sephardim do not listen to music during the 3 weeks. Do not know where you got that information. I have never heard of any Sephardi get married during the 3 weeks. There may be an engagements, but no music, of course.

During the 9 days, no meat. and for the other things like showering and laundry, Sephardim hold Sh’vuah Sha Hal Bo. Since Tisha B’Av falls on a Sunday, there is no week, this year. So it is permitted for Sephardim to shower, and do laundry this week.

    mazal,

since I can’t put links here is halachipedia

The Ashkenazic custom is not to get married during the three weeks. [16] Among Sephardim, some have just the custom not to get married during the nine days (from Rosh Chodesh Av until Tisha BeAv) [17] and some have the custom not to get married the entire three weeks. [18]

Differences Between Ashkenazi and Sephardi Custom

There are a number of customs during the three weeks like like getting married, dancing, listening to music, haircuts, making the blessing of Shehechiyanu, etc. However, on a very fundamental level there is a difference of custom between Ashkenazi and Sefardi Jewry. Ashkenazim refrain from all of these practices starting from the 17th of Tammuz4). Sephardim do not refrain from any of them from the 17th of Tammuz5), rather they begin to refrain from certain things starting at Rosh Chodesh Av and certain things only during the week in which the 9th of Av falls out. We will discuss the exact details of the Sephardi custom ahead when we talk about the customs of the Nine Days.

Mazal: Incorrect. According to almost everyone (maybe even everyone), Shavua Shechal Bo this year is all of next week because Tishah B’av is a Nidche.

Coffee Addict, I am Sephardi and no one I know has weddings during the 3 weeks. There are Sephardim who are more stringent, hard to believe, isn’t it?

Actually looking at the Simcha Sites, I see lots of Ashkenaz names with Wedding pictures during the 3 weeks (except from Rosh Hodesh AV) I do not see any Sephardic names, except for engagements.

Mazal: R’ Ovadia Yosef fought tooth and nail to let the Rabbanut let Sefardim get married during the 3 weeks because that’s not the Minhag for most of them.

Could someone let me know if “Machzir Gerushoso” is permitted during the 3 weeks? because the wedding halls may be far cheaper when there is a very low demand for them.

Doesn’t the SH”A mention Machzir Grushaso as being Muttar in the 3 weeks? I have to review.

    Sam2:

I don’t know about Ashkenazim, but us Sephardim hold that this year, there is no Shavoua Shechal Bo, because the fast is on Sunday. I know there are people who are more stringent because is is Nidche, but my community and every Sephardic person I know hold that there is no Shavoua Shechal Bo this year.

Also, concerning weddings,I know that Chacham Ovadiah Z”TZL holds that one is allowed to get married during the 3 weeks, but our custom is not like that.

Sam2 : Actually, what jack123 wrote is correct. I checked the Tur and most Poskim endorse the view that there is no “shevua shechal bo” this year or any year when Tisha be’av falls on a sunday. The Tur does bring down a shitta who holds otherwise (the Semag-an Ashkenazi rishon) but the Shulchan Aruch does not record that shitta as halocho. BTW- this shitta will agree that when Tisha be’av is not a nidche and falls on sunday, there is no shevua shechal bo.
