You are reading and responding to it.

The only difference is I’m in Chicago for shabbos, but you’re probably on Eastern time so it’s 1230 at night.

You can’t blame me; I thought it’ll be some spiritual thread about the sound of the shofar!!!

(and 12:30 is not considered late for motza’ei shabbos)

Welcome back popa!!! I think I saw you on shabbos, although I wasn’t so sure if it was you, so I thought it best just to pretend i’m a shtikle shy… & that’s precisely why

I didn’t say Hi. better safe than sorry…

BTW:- If it were you popa that were blowing the shofar i would assume it would sound sth like, POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa

    rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    bbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Popa – ah – Peterson Park Kolel. That’s where my son’s Yesahiva is.

Are you allowed to give a hint as to where you stayed? How long will you be here this time? coming back anytime soon?

I am leaving to the airport in about 10 minutes.

I may be back on Wednesday or Thursday. (No, I am not dating someone here. Firstly, I might be married. Secondly, you need to be crazy to want to date someone from Chicago. There is absolutely nobody normal there.)

popa – if there’s nobody normal here, why do you keep coming back? besides, if i’m not mistaken, you’re already married, no? possibly with grandchildren? Anyway why the reference to dating here? i don’t see that anyone asked you that question, unless i missed it.

baalhabooze – absolutely – the shofars here have the HOLY chicaahgo accent. you should come and experience it some time. gevaldig!!!

    #832693

i ain’t surprised poppa has never heard a shofar.

I hope his first impression will move him.

Poppa Bar Abba; (OP). It depends who the Baal Tokeah is. With some people, (who may think that they are a Baal Tokeah.) it sounds like a cow calling her calves home for supper.

Nobody lives south of Peterson except the telshers, who live by Foster.

So either you’re a telsher or nobody.

According to the Shulchan Aruch Harav the sound of a Shofar is supposed to sound like someone is crying.

Popa IF it’s not true, how could you be listening to the shofar everyday and still lie!!! The shofar is telling you to do ?????.

Don’t you want a good year??!!

Popa – i beg to differ! we are not telshers but we did live south of peterson- about 2 blocks south – not near foster. we davened at the agudah and then by bais ushi. AND we are NOT nobody! Should i take back our invitation for a Shabbos meal? 😉 after all, you wouldn’t want to eat by a nobody, would you?

To Popa: I am a Telzer. I have responsibilities in the community (I say shiurim in both the Aguda shul and Bais Tefila) as well, so I live closer to Peterson than Foster. But I daven in Telshe every Shabbos morning. (Actually, I’ve been the Baal Koreh there for almost 25 years now. So how’s that for blowing my cover!) (Gefen should’ve figured out on the Bloomenkranz/Weiner thread a couple of weeks back as well.)

Firstly, observe please that midwesterner is a telsher. So you are also.

    Secondly, I didn’t say “a nobody”; I said “nobody”.

Thirdly, I love bais ushy. I sponsored a kiddush there in honor of “whoever donates the coffee.”

The Shofar is meant to represent the cry of a broken heart. My husband learned in Telshe Yeshiva in the mid 70’s. His Rebbeim were Rav Dovid Oppen, Rav Asher Weil and Rav Gluck. His 2nd seder Chavrusa was HaRav Chaim Schmelczer, ZT’L. He said that the davening there on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur was the nicest davening he has ever heard. The Baalei Tefillos were Reuven Gluck and his brother, who first name he does not recall.

Rav Dovid Oppen has been in the holy land for more than 30 years now. But R’ Usher and R’ Shmuel Dovid Gluck are STILL the 11th and 12th grade rabbeim, ka’h!

Reb Reuven Gluck was, and still is the Baal Shacharis in the Yeshiva. Rav Chaim Schmelczer, ztl, was the baal Mussaf. Today, he has been replaced by his sons, R’ Moshe and R’ Shmuel.

The Telzer davening is addictive. Once you experience it, and absorb it, it is very difficult to leave.

midwesterner – have you figured out who i am? i’ve given many hints on other threads. (my husband also posts here – under his own screen name of course. my kids are on here too- hence my subtitle)

btw – we have known the bloomenkranz family for many years. in fact a couple of our kids are friends. tema weiner a’h was in the same class as my mother in law.

popa – we are not telshers – why do you insist we are?

Firstly, there is nothing wrong with being a telsher. You don’t need to be defensive about it.

Secondly, because you lived south of Peterson.

midwesterner: My husband just told me he doesn’t recall Rav Chaim being the Baal Mussaf, but he stands corrected. Whenever Rav Dovid Oppen would come to New York from Eretz Yisroel to collect funds for his seminary, Machon Devorah, he would call my husband and they would sit and schmooze for hours. My husband tells me that he was a true ??? in the entire ???. My husband like all the bochrim from telz, took their driving courses at Mathers High School. At 15, you got a junior license and at 16 a regular one. My husband and Rav Oppen and his family were so close that he gave him a copy of his car keys to use when the car was available. ??? ?????? of course. My husband remembers when one of his twin boys was struck by a car, and his life hung in the balance for close to 3 weeks.

He was close as well to Rabbi Shmuel Fuerst, as his parents lived only 1/2 block from my in-laws in Boro Park, and he knew him from before.

popa – i’m not defensive. i never said there’s anything wrong with being a telsher (chas v’shalom). i’m just stating a fact. i certainly would not be denying it if we were telshers. just because we lived south of peterson doesn’t mean anything. does the fact that my daughters went to byhsc also mean we’re telsers? i don’t think so. my son does not go to telshe yeshiva. (you should know that from a previous post) anyway – i think ur just trying to be funny or ur trolling. so i’ll just let you have ur fun 😉

so anyway – i better be nice and be careful – after all – i have a daughter starting out in the parsha and another one not far behind. 🙂 any of you chicagoans here happen to be shadchanim? 😉

anyone would pay to go out with MY daughters. the guys don’t have to be bribed!

and HSBY??? don’t even mention that school on the cr!! tsk tsk! cant compare with BYHSC – don’t worry JK – HSBY is a GR8 school!!!! In fact my girls have many friends who went there. i was just trolling – i think i learned that from s/o here 😉

anyone realize that we are way off the original topic here? it should be renamed – “the chicago thread” or somthing like that.

midwwesterner – btw – u probably would never guess who i am as you probably wouldn’t know me from a hole in the wall. you may know my husband, but i doubt u know me. i am either known as ploni’s wife, ben or bas or bas ploni’s mother, or mrs ploni’s daughter in law. me? – otherwise i don’t have an identity. but that’s ok.

Any reason my previous post got deleted? Did I divulge too much of someone else’s personal info? It was nothing more than was already in the coffee room! I just collected it in one spot! Please feel free to not post this but to answer me by email. YWN editor knows me and where my personal email address is available in the Public Media on a regular basis.

Generally I have no problem with your editing, and what the Mods have cut out from my postings. I’m just trying to understand this one specific issue.

I wasn’t the mod who deleted it, but yeah, it looks a bit too personal. The subject may have gotten a bit freaked out if she saw it. -95

Gefen: OK, much simpler approach. Did your husband get a surprise birthday cake around Shavuos last year (2010) from “Yedidim”? If I’m correct, my wife baked and decorated that cake.
