What does everyone do all that, that allows them to post SO frequently in the CR? I just had a baby so that’s my excuse :). When he naps I venture online. All year however I worked full time and when I checked the CR at night, I saw that it was busy busy all day!

So.. What are all of you people doing all day!?

    Nothing.

    Plain and simple. =)

I teach. Some days my schedule is heavy and I don’t get to the CR at all. Other days are light. Today, for example, I had only one class.

I am a therapist but am on my computer during breaks. The CR did not make it thru my work place’s filter in the past but this year I would post whenever I was supposed to be writing an important report. Otherwise I didn’t have time. Now I have to taser my kids to free up the computer and enter the internet access code that they don’t know about in a hidden place under the stairs so they won’t see. It makes it hard to post too often but it’s a good deterrent against CR addiction.

Mazel Tov on your baby, by the way. You may want to squeeze in a few minutes of sleep between posts.

This was also asked over and over in the past.

What I do? Nothing. At all. Obviously!

Anyone who is at a computer doing whatever it is that they do, can give one click to see if the three or four current conversations got anywhere.

Many people log in with their phones. In between here and there they give a peek and a poke. You say you have some time by night and that’s when you check. People have little pockets of time throughout the day, as well.

Thanks! Yes, my lack of sleep will probably catch up with me one of these days. I took a pretty decent nap when he slept this morning, I use the rest of his sleeping time to actually eat, bathe, do dishes basically anything he won’t let me do when he is up!

Yeshiva/ online college. Don’t post much here. (used to be “CRious”, but changed to “CRuzer” cuz I’m cool like that) I mostly just check up on YWN to get the news and some entertainment from people’s comments. It’s funny how they feel it’s important that the whole world know their opinion. I may be the same way, but when you think about it, you realize how silly it is.

CRuzer – I agree with you, I have had the same thoughts. Usually, though, I hesitate to write because I davka know that it isn’t important that the world know my opinion. Then I remember that most of the world has no clue who I am.

I am in school during the year and am on my computer writing papers most of the day because I have no life…but during summer break, I don’t have to, which is why I’m not on here as much. 🙂

    #884391

I work in an IT support job, so in between tasks I spend some time learning, reading the news, and since YWN is on my regular list of news sites I drop by to the CR now and thena s well. I’m a bit of a news addict, so I tend to check about 10 sites each time at least 30-40 times per day. Weather addict, also.

I am retired but have been the primary caretaker for my granddaughter and now B”EH for my grandson, when my daughter was in school and now that she will be working part-time.

I wanted and offered to do this, because frankly and chauvinistically, I believe that no “fremdeh” will love my grandchildren unconditionally the way I do, and why should a stranger have the nachas of watching the baby grow and develop, when I could be the one? What babysitter, unless frum (and they are hard to find for one on one babysitting here) is going to “daven” with the baby from Day One, as I do, saying Modeh Ani and the Shema, making a point to eat something when the baby gets a feeding, so he can hear me make a bracha? Sing Torah tziva lanu Moshe every day (it really WAS the first sentence I taught my own children to say)? My time is free, I’m filled with love and excitement at the thought of spending quality AND quantity time with my grandkids, and it will save my daughter and son-in-law the money they would have had to otherwise shell out for a nanny. Win-Win situation. It’s even part-time, so I have ME time as well during the day. Can’t wait.

Oomis: SO idealistic!! I think there’s a special Mitzvah (inyan) for grandparents (father) to teach a grandson ??????? ????? ????? ????. I think they’re especially lucky to have such a grandparent to look up to.

What do I do all day you ask?

Well now you’re taking me to task!

“oh, nothing much!” a young child may say,

But that “nothing” is what he did all day!

Painting, coloring, maybe learned a thing or two,

But he says “nothing much is what i do!”

So what do i do that gives me the time,

To sit in the coffee room and type up this rhyme?

I’m not sure, of that I’m sure

Cuz i do “nothing” and a whole lot more!

I’m an attorney in a relatively low-pressure job, so I have time to check YWN a few times a day. I try not to post very often, though.

I was wondering what the halacha on this issue is. Farm workers are allowed to eat grapes while they’re harvesting, right? So what about office workers who are paid by the hour? Is it an aveira to check the news or weather or comment on a message board now and then? I heard a rabbi say that every unauthorized phone call at work is like stealing, and I saw another rabbi say that if you wasted time at work you should make it up by working unpaid overtime. Gatesheader, since you mentioned your news and weather addiciton, do you have any thoughts?

    yytz.

I don’t know halachos. But I think the farm workers are only permitted to eat pending a few conditions, not at all possible by office workers.

Regarding what’s permitted by office employees needs to be asked by a competent Rav, Dayan – hilchos choshen mishpat. I think a lot has to do with the general order, also what the employer would be makpid. Again, I’m not a Rabbi by any stretch of imagination, ask a real one.

oomis: I know somebody, who when they would babysit there grandkids, would charge the parents for it.

Then, when the family would be planning a vacation and there’s not enough money, the mother would give them an envelope with the exact dollars that she got “paid”!

(I don’t think her kids knew why Mommy was charging them)

    Just a thought/sort of suggestion!

Oomis!! What a wonderful post. I love it, I read it twice! Thank you for that. Sounds a lot like what I do everyday with my son. A lot of people are asking me, nu when are you going back to work? But I treasure my time home, this has always been my dream why would I want someone else to experience all of his firsts, and not me?!
