Talmud Yerushalmi was written about 100 years before Bavli, yet it seams to have taken a serious back seat (and I mean like Lakewood family, 300-seater, Ford Econoline back seat). Does anybody want to explain why this has happened? Recently, an authoritative צורת הדף was established, there is ב”ה no lack of Meforshim- פני משה, קרבן העדה, ספר החרדים, ר”ש סיריליו, and more! In fact, Artscroll is already up to (as of this writing) מסכת סנהדרין in their TRANSLATION AND ELUCIDATION OF TALMUD YERUSHALMI! Perhaps I’m missing something?

A few things. We say that the Mesora and Torah left Eretz Yisroel and went to Bavel, so we pasken like the Bavli and not the Yerushalmi. There actually is a lack of meforshim, very few rishonim compared to Bavli. It’s far more difficult to understand, often the meforshim will argue as to whether a sentence is a kashe or teretz.

See the Rif at the end of Eruvin before the mishnah.

The Yerushalmi is straight forward without many arguments maybe that is why it is called halacha instead of mishnah. We rely more on actions as אוירא דארץ ישראל מחכים.

Firstly the Rishonim didn’t write nearly as extensively on the Yerushalmi

Secondly being that the Bavli was written later , halacha K’basrah, we always pasken with the Bavli over the Yerushalmi. Therefore if you are looking to learn a sugya aliva d’hichasa it has to be done based on the Bavli. The Rambam, Shulcha Orech etc are primarily based on Talmid Bavli.

Therefore there is a much greater focus on it.

Same reason why 99.9% of charedi yeshivos skip learning נ”ך .
We read it every week in the haftorah but its in the back burner like yerushalmi. Go figure!

    Nothing happened. Finish Bavli first.

Why is Mesaches Shekolim, the only masechta from Yerushalmi, included in the Daf Hayomi? I think because it reminds us of the geulah. The Kaftor Voferach brings from Rav Chaim Miparis that he wanted to sacrifice a Korban Pesach in the beginning of the 6th hebrew millenium. The Chasam Sofer and Rav Akiva Eiger discuss in great detail how to overcome all the difficulties, but why wasn’t he makriv a Korban Tamid? They answer is that it needs shiklei tzibur which is currently not available only when the Beis Hamikdash will be built.
