2 questions: what became of Yigal Calek (of the London School of Jewish Song)? Is he still around? Also, where does his “tzali um’tzudosi” come from? Ok- three questions: what does the song children of silence refer to? The Holocaust?

February 16, 2014 9:39 am at 9:39 am #1004274Geordie613ParticipantAs far as I understand, Children of Silence refers to the Soviet Era.

also Shmuel II 22:2-3
February 16, 2014 12:29 pm at 12:29 pm #1004276morahmomParticipantWow – what a blast out of the past! Answering your second question first, Children of Silence was about Soviet Jews, a hot topic in the 70’s. Sali Umetzudosi comes from Tehillim kapitel 18 posuk 3, based on the shira that Dovid said after being saved from Shaul [again]. That is found in Shmuel Beis 22.
February 16, 2014 12:31 pm at 12:31 pm #1004278morahmomParticipantOh, and I seem to remember Yigal Calek at some earlier HASC concerts, but I don’t know how long ago. The LS of JS was still around in the 90’s, I think.
February 16, 2014 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm #1004279Little FroggieMember“Sali” is from Shmuel bais, 22. The one in Tehillim is quite similar but different.
February 16, 2014 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #1004280mobicoParticipantLittle Froggie is quite right. He (at least I assume it’s a he) had really toad the line on this one.
February 16, 2014 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #1004281AshParticipantHis last record was about 14 years ago, and last performance a little-publicised reunion concert about 9-10 years ago in London.
I don’t think such pure nigunim could compete in today’s frum music industry.
He lives, as do many of his alumni, in Golders Green, London and remains one the most eidel people you can hope to meet.
February 17, 2014 2:30 am at 2:30 am #1004282mynamesixonethreeParticipantThanks for responses everyone…Ash, that is such a sad statement about today’s frum music industry….no Dveykus, no LSJS, oy….
February 17, 2014 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1004283notasheepMemberHe does sing here and there. My husband actually met him at a chasuna in London last year.

August 2, 2018 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #1568725ChoirmistressParticipantTo both MorahMom and Geordie613:
Do you (or does anyone else on here) have the full lyrics to the French part of Children of Silence? I have the CD but am hearing words completely different from or in addition to the hard-to-find French lyrics. I do know some French (I’m Canadian, d’uh), but the end of the French part of the song totally eludes me. I’ve got from “Un soir d’ete” until “Rejoindre en chanson”, but that’s it.
Any help out there? I’m trying to complete my MSWord file to post it on imamother.com.
Thanks in advance for any and all info.

I’ve been asked by so many of you to re-start the choir once again. I am therefore delighted to announce that I will be auditioning boys age 9 and over for the relaunch of my choir.
