    The Street?

Or for that matter any finger food (Like a Slice of Pizza, Sandwich, Candy etc)

It’s messy and undignified, and there’s a halacha we’re supposed to be menchlicht.

Rabbi Miller ??”? says if you do that, then go to the nearest fire hydrant and pick up your hind legs…

Cool so let’s discuss it again. Why would you think anythings wrong with eating finger food in the middle of the street? Did your parents tell you not to?

speaking of refined and mentchlich, I would hardly imagine Rabbi Miller would ever speak like that.

Is there a difference between that and lets say, eating in the car?

A car is indoors. It’s not like a chazir eating on the street.

Eating at the wheel endangers other road users…

Syag, He actually did. I didn’t take it as being unrefined ?”?, (he was the ??? ????) just a humorous way of saying “Doggie”.

    Jimmy Savile:

Because it’s considered undignified, not proper manners in Torah Judaism. ????? ???? ???? ????.

We received our set of Ethics, manners directly from HaShem, that’s why we start of Pirkei Avos with ??? ???? ???? ??????. These set of ethics are divinely ordained, whether we understand or not.

actually I heard a tape in which Rabbi Miller mentioned dog behavior, he was a gadol and spoke very matter of factly, I loved it.

    #900780

I always wondered why dogs like fire hydrants.

    Anyone?

    #900781

There are qualifications to that domeh lekelev gemorah. If I remember correctly some rishonim say it only applies to bread (which might make a hot dog problematic and an icecream fine). It is not a black and white question and I imagine it would likely go under the ball nefesh machmir. (As an aside, R’Chatzkel once gave a mussar shmooze in the Mir because he saw a yeshiva bachur carry a loaf of bread in the street without it being covered.)

I have an issue with any website that allows “Jimmy Savile” as a screen name.

    Period.

    You should be embarrassed.

No worse than attacking the kiddush on Shabbos and fressing as if you haven’t eaten in days.

I second that. Jimmy was a bad man.

i know for myself, in all honesty, (to my everlasting shame,) tend to forget to say a brocha achrona after eating something if i am not eating it by my kitchen/diningroom table.

not ALWAYS. but very very often. i’ll only remember hours later. so i don’t think it’s so much of a problem of mentchlichkeit per se, as it is with actually making our brochos properly. or making our brochos all together. if we eat in the street you also have a problem if you leave the street to enter a reshus hayochid, which no requires one to make a new brocho. (classic example: someone grabs a danish and coffee after shacharis, makes a brocha, takes a bite/sip, then leaves shul goes outside to his car which requires him now to make a new brocha)

i agree with gavra_at_work. funny, i never saw that poster before. i clicked his name but got ‘user not found’ message. weird.

I’m not quite sure that the moderators here even know who the lowlife Jimmy Savile was. I don’t think you should attack the website, you should advise them to look into it so they can make the appropriate decision.

I am being dan l’kaf z’chus that the owner of the website does not yet know about this. But now that I Googled the name, I agree that such a despicable person’s name should not be used as a SN.

gavra – yup! whoever they are (and I note they have just appeared in the last few days…) they should be thoroughly and utterly ashamed of themselves. Never mind eating in the street, choosing a screen-name like that is the most unrefined, unmenchlich thing on this thread…

Seriously mods, now that it’s been pointed out to you that Savile was the lowest of the low, could you please get this guy to change their screen-name? And JS, get a life and a new screen-name. You could probably get them on a two-for-one at Poundland.

    Sorry.

FWIW, I was not aware of the significance of the name either before gavra brought it up.

However, as far as the user goes, your sense of humor is… unappreciated and inappropriate.

TLKY – I don’t think it’s just fire hydrants. Animals mark their territory with the urine. A dog will lift his leg at any object that he can (trees, fences, benches, etc) to leave his scent behind and mark it as his territory. I don’t know how much of an effect this has on other animals because I think each animal that its owner takes it for a walk down a particular street marks many of the same spots as previous animals, so whose territory is it anyway?

No, just for your distasteful choice of SN (and accompanying profile).

JS, I doubt the current location in your profile is accurate. I think the real Jimmy Savile took a one-way trip on the down-escalator. No-one is out to get you but this kind of ‘joke’ is utterly revolting.
