September 3, 2010 2:39 pm at 2:39 pm #745316its_meMemberi think MBD was the one who made that name famous by calling him that on stage.
September 3, 2010 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #745317apushatayidParticipantThese days its hip to be a one name star. It was only a matter of time.
September 3, 2010 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #745318WIYMemberIts sad that “Avremel” feels the need to be hip. As long as he doesn’t try to hip up his music like some other people in the industry it won’t bother me. His music is Jewish music at its finest.

It used to be more “commercial”, everything was more official. You wouldn’t hear him singing a song from a different singer in his league… Now you can find clips of him singing virtually any current hit like Vzakeini (B. Levine), etc.. Everything is more heimish in a way. This is also, in my opinion why he is know now to more people as Avreimel.
September 5, 2010 6:20 am at 6:20 am #745321avramiParticipanthe is known to people with this name because thats the name he got years ago it has nothing to do with how and what he sings……
September 15, 2010 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #745322ChossonMemberAvraham Fried feels the need to have a one name name. Like Lipa, Dedi, Shwekey, etc.
February 28, 2011 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #745323miamigirl613MemberHis name was always Avremel Friedman. He changed it to Avraham Fried as a performer name. The people that really know him call him by his real name which is Avremel.

March 1, 2011 3:35 am at 3:35 am #745329abcd2Participantmy family has known him for quite some time as other posters mentioned his family has called him that for years, if anything he feels comfortable using it it is not a reason like needing to shorten his name or feeling hip.
