When do people purchase graves for themselves?

Is there anything wrong with a young person buying himself/wife a kever?

Suppose a young person would really love to be buried in E”Y, if he were to die in an accident his family would probably bury him locally. So he buys a plot in Israel. Also, in thirty, forty years plots will be much more expensive like everything else.

Why is it not a prudent thing to do? Young people buy life insurance despite the improbability of dying young – but it happens so they want their families to be secure. So why not prepare a grave young? Is it not a proper act of hishtadlus? We understand that for an older person it is the right thing to do – and not to leave it for their kids, so at what point in life does it become prudent? 70? maybe 60? maybe 30?

my mom is in her 50s and she has not bought a coffin yet (just a slight deviation from the subject… lets make this thread morbidly fun?) my great grandparents bought a bunch of plots in a cemetery for the all members until my mom’s generation dies out. I don’t plan on buying a plot when I am 30, lets put it that way…

I’m 46, and I would be happy to buy a kever now – in fact, more than one kever – for starters, one for Chavez, one for Ahmadinejad, one for Haniyeh, one for Nasrkaka, one for Ahmed Tibi, one for Noam Chomsky, and even one for George Tzuris, who can afford his own.

Seriously, it is a segulah for long life to prepare a tzavooh. A good idea would be to specify your desired place of burial and to allot funds for its purchase. A statement like “my neshomo will know no rest if my request is not fulfilled” might be appropriate if you know you have relatives who might not follow your directions.

I would like to be buried next to Sholam Weiss. If we hold that dina demalchusa dina, that guarantees me over seven centuries of life.

Never to early to buy a never its actually a Segula for a long life. And yes we never know when our time expires so buy it while you can if you want to be buried In A specific place

    #926775

How is it a segula for a long life?

    #926776

I already bought one, but it was just because Slickdeals had buy two get one free. Of course, they’re not going to bury you next to a gadol if you bought the bargain graves, but I’m gambling on important people wanting to be buried next to me (and my wife, and one lucky friend!).

I have also heard that it is a segula for a long life. I do not know what the source is. Is there any room left on Har Hazeisim? I would love to be buried there! What would that cost? Can I pay money down and then pay in installments? Maybe I will have a bank subsidize the rest

I know a guy who wanted to be buried next to a gadol, so when he was dying, he went right next to the grave and died there as a meis mitzva, so they would have to bury him there when they found him.

But, they outsmarted him. They brought someone else who was dying and was choshuv, and let that guy die even closer to the gadol as a meis mitzva, and then buried that guy there.

Yep, that Super Bowl one was so funny that my friends and i are cracking up about it… This one is say… a bit morbid. I am the type of person who gets creeped out every time I have to walk near the part of costco that has the coffin display…

I honestly do not understand why posting up two topics is trolling. I am wondering about graves. Morbid? yes, but nothing wrong with the topic.

And about the Super Bowl in Halachah, it may sound funny, but its also a legitimate question. Nothing wrong with discussing. There are coffee room addicts here that post stuff up MUCH more often than I do. I do one once in a while at best…no need to freak, yes moderator take it down a notch please. Thank you.

Why isn’t it a meis mitzva? I’m talking about where nobody knows who it is or will bury him (both people in the story).

And why isn’t it funny? The chevra kadisha was laughing their heads off when they brought the second guy there. You should have seen the look on the first guy’s face. He just went white.

But what if Meshiach comes and I’m dead yet? Will I get a refund? Will the cemetary transfer the grave site to Eretz Yisrael (they move bodies, they don’t move whole empty graves).

To clarify, they were figuratively laughing their heads off. If they literally laughed their heads off, they would also be dead, and then might be buried even closer. (nobody knew who they were either)

Nothing irresponsible or negative about preparing for one’s final arrangements. It takes a bug burden off your next of kin.

Never to early to buy a never its actually a Segula for a long life.

Not to mention, a wonderful Seguloh to end up paying less money for the same plot, as prices only move in 1 direction:- The same direction that our Neshomo will eventually go, but just so much sooner.

And yes we never know when our time expires so buy it while you can if you want to be buried In A specific place

If anyone had been expecting to procure a plot at Har Menuchos, they have probably already missed their chance. Har Menuchos is sold out. They may be working on building caves over there as per the Mishna in Bobo Basro, but I don’t think most of us wish to end up in a cave, not even if Halachically sanctioned.
