After working for 20 years I lost my job. I was wondering if any one can help me please. It is strange for me to be at home for long hours at a stretch. I was wondering: When do I say a brocho and when do i say brocho achroino? e.g I take something to drink mid morning, I make a brocho. Should I make a brocho achroino at this point or can I have another drink half hour later with this same brocho? How many times can I drink on this same brocho?

What decides when I should make a brocho acharoino?

Sorry to hear about your job. I hope you have found something meantime! (Having a job is also a brocho!).

In reply to your question, although i dont believe this is the correct place for halacha debates but should be face to face with your Rav, I’ll tell you what my Rav told us, that there’s only a shiur for bracha achrona. For bracha rishona its as long as you havent been meisiach da’as however long has elapsed. Eg on Seder night, we make ha’adama on the karpas and have in mind that it should also go on the maror… which we will only be eating a long long time later!

You should make a bracha achrona on the cup of water immediately.

This inyan is very complicated and its best to ask a Rav because there are so many factors that come in to play with Brachos like Shinuy Makom, Hefsek, Shiur for Bracha Achrona, if the food/drink was eaten within the zman of Bracha Achrona like Kdei Shtiyas Reviis or Kdei Achilas Pras, Sheilos of Brachos Levatalos and Sheino Tzrichos.

    PLEASE ASK YOUR RAV!
