Why are some politicians more bothered by MBP, with infinitesimally small danger, than with clearly murderous abortions (US abortion rate is 41%, meaning that nearly 2 in 5 pregnancies in the US are terminated)?

Americans are free to end pregnancies, and they do, as you read this, every second of the day, but are against MBP, because thats dangerous.

Is there not some hypochrisy here?

    And MBP is???????????

No, unless you also believe that payment to the father of the fetus is sufficent. even in the case of Anusha or Ervah.

AZOI.IS – It’s called liberalism at it’s finest. And YWN posted an article/Op-ed why Jews shouldn’t vote for Romney. All I can say is if Pres. Obama gets in, the left will continue even more with their moral downslide.

It’s never that way with humans -to have true equality – the more liberal they become – the less tolerance they have of others that are different than them, esp. when it comes to religion.

You can see that clearly in very liberal Europe. Recently over there – there has been attacks on Shechita and Mila.

    explain:

If Reuvain kills Shimon, he gets killed. If Dina’s father impregnates her, but Levi comes and aborts the fetus, the money gets paid to Dina’s father, and no one is killed.

Obviously that is hypocrisy as well?

I agree, it does not sense. I personally have some minor reservations about MBP, more so

before the story came out that the most recent child thought to have died from it really caught the sore from his pacifier.

…But, how any politician can openly support abortion yet condem MBP boggles my mind. Well how any human can openly support abortion boggles my mind..

no, its not. The reason why there’s no capital punishment is because it’s a sofic chi. not because it’s mutter!

No, the reason there’s no capital punishment is that the Torah says there’s only a monetary payment.

If the only question was ??? ?? ??? ??, there would be no money being paid at all – there is no concept of a monetary payment atoning for murder.

Really. I thought it was because that is what the Torah says to do.

Personally, I think this has a lot to do with bloomberg himself, the liberals in general are against mila altogether. (Unless the mbp parsha is the beginning of attempts to ban mila ch”v.) He seems to have some Jewish guilt, to put it nicely. Perhaps one of the psychologists here can give us some insight.

Ironically, in the news today the AAP is recommending circumcision for newborn boys, albeit with painkillers. America will be losing money in health costs to fight infection because less boys are being circumcised nowadays. So if the goal here is to prevent infection, NY should force parents to circumcise their boys. (not that it’s ok according to halacha, just saying according to the same “don’t put kids at risk of infection logic”.) And I know it’s easier to ban something than enforce a positive, but we do mandate (with some exceptions) immunizations for kids.

AARGH! I’m sure the mods won’t let this through, but I have to do my part.

US abortion rate is 41%, meaning that nearly 2 in 5 pregnancies in the US are terminated

Forty percent is equal to two in five. Therefore, more than 40 percent is more than two in five. Since 41 is more than 40, that would be more than two in five, not nearly two in five. (Yes, I know math, too.)

. . . less boys are being circumcised nowadays.

Less is for things you count. Fewer is for things you don’t count. Just because we don’t count Jews doesn’t mean we are not able to.

Less if for things you count. Fewer is for things you don’t count.

You meant right but said it backwards.

haifagirl: You said “Less is for things you count. Fewer is for things you don’t count. Just because we don’t count Jews doesn’t mean we are not able to.”

Wrong. It’s exactly the other way round. (Was that a typo?)

    For example:

‘I listen to less music at night.’ and ‘There was less rain today.’

‘Fewer children are taking judo lessons this year’ and ‘There are fewer eggs in the red basket’.

I heard Dr Gelbfish, a doctor and Mohel, speak on Zev Brenner tonight, about the risks involving Metzitzah b’Peh. He made some points that are hard to debate.

If you do Metzitza on your infant and the morning after he contracts herpes, l”a, which 10% of infected babies die from, and the babies who survive, suffer throughout their lives, often with neurological issues, and you’ll feel that this is what G-d wanted and totally and unregretfully accept it, you will not be pro- Mohel testing. But, if you are the type who would feel lifelong regret, at least lets as a community see to it that Mohalim get tested regularly, because even asymptomatic Mohalim can be carriers of Herpes, only determined by regular testing. Regular testing of Mohalim is the least we can do to help prevent herpes in infants.

One infant in 5,000 gets herpes after Metzitzah, a seemingly very small number. However, whoever it happens to, it happens to 100%.

I apologize in advance if I got any facts wrong.

    Apology accepted.

1 in 5,000 is widely inaccurate. It isn’t even close to that.

    What are your numbers?

And what if one were your child ch”v? It does happen.

Azoi – maybe SLIGHTLY less chance then that of a menuval, living his ‘lifestyle’ catching aids. Right on – there is no consent form for that… Our most honored Mayor voted for it.. For some odd reason Health Dept. isn’t particularly concerned..

    Interesting

    Oh yeah, I forgot.

WARNING. According to the surgeon general, sitting in one office for twelve consecutive years is bound to have serious side effects. It actually goes to your head.

Btw, Mr Mayor, is there any health hazard issue having millions of helpless New Yorkers stranded by some AVOIDABLE snow condition?

Main difference being that when an adult engages in activities prone to serious health risks, thats their mishigas. Good for them! The infants have no say.

    and to all..

This reminds me of a scene of Kunda’s Daring Disguise:

“Minister of Agriculture, what do you know about circumcision?…” Here we have this egoist of a Mayor (one who revised law to get himself an additional term, re-revised it so that no one else should) giving his worthless deyos on health issues.

    Mr. Mayor! Plow our snow!!!
