Rhetorically asking – is there anyone here who finds cream-sauce-herring (such as Flaum’s & Golden-Taste) too sweet? If so, is there any brand/variety herring that you or your acquaintances prefer, and that isn’t overly salty either?
Thanks, from a herring non-maven
February 4, 2024 11:05 am at 11:05 am #2258617BaltimoreMavenParticipantSchwartz’s Original Shtiglitz Herring is 100% without doubt the best, most amazing herring ever made. Use the thinnest non-flavored kichel you can find.

Serve on a dark Russian pumpernickel with thinly sliced onions

I’d really hate to see your level of outrage had the OP asked about CR preferences as between schmaltz and matjes preparations

Only partially true in relation to Atlantic dolphins. Pacific dolphins universally prefer Matjes w/o onionsl

And for those of you who do not recall the advertising tag line, it was/is: “Make your day a little bit brighter (pronounced Brooklyn-style without the final r-sound/it a little piece of herring by Vita.”
