Goq, this is a great question.

I’ll have to give it some thought. I’m absolutely stunned that I don’t have a ready answer for this question, even if just to myself.

Ok, I still can’t come up with a living personality who inspired me as a child yet, but I do know that Dovid Hamelech did. He was going through such tough times and yet would play music and be brave (Goliath, etc.) and be grateful (Tehillim)…I remember feeling that if he could do it, so could I (oh, the simplicity of tender youth…)

Me? There was an student in an older grade sort of friendly with me, who had sterling midos – they really shone out. It so inspired me, I really admired the person and the middos, strove to emulate (did I succeed?)

I was, and still am, inspired by my parents. My father, with his Yiras Shomayim and zehirus with every mitzva. My mother, with her strength and strong Emuna who has suffered a LOT in her life.

I was also inspired by some sincere teachers.

    BTW, thanks, Goq. Nice thread!

I was inspired by stories of Gedolim who started out simple, which showed how all is within my reach. Also, by my older brothers.

i think my parents the most, [may they live until 120 b”H]

because of their many acts of chesed and their knowledge of Torah.

We had this one teacher in school, a Lubavitcher, who never wanted to embarrass a girl if she was disruptive or misbehaving in class. He had a very unique way of calling her attention to her behavior, without letting anyone know who he was speaking about (and, in fact, he probably caused a ripple effect of others shaping up at that moment also). He would say (without looking at anyone in particular)”she is talking” ” she is chewing gum”, and everyone would stop to figure out if he was talking about them. It was truly amazing and effective. he was one of the inspirational people I met along the way.

that really worked? and the girls didn’t just always look at everyone else to see who it was that was talking?

alive and well this is much more of an intelligent question/thread then ones where people are going back and forth forever stating which avatar photo upload they’d chose.

I am sorry I opened that thread. You know about photos in the CR. I had to get out of there. I was just trying initially to make a suggestion to the mods. It turned into a game arcade now.

Who inspired me as a kid was Laura Ingels Wilder the character from “little house on the prarie”. I saw her a real wholesome good honest, little girl who was simple but had better middos than Nelli Olsen.

It really worked. Of course we looked at everyone else, but only after momentarily trying to figure out if he was talking to us. It was very effective and made a very great impression on us about what tzidkus is.
