The past month has been filled with plenty of antisemitism; From the “krystalnach” in Highland Park to burning of a sefarim store in Hollywood, Florida I think something has to be done. We need to guard our Jewish stores and our streets. Who says this won’t come to Brooklyn, Queens or the 5 towns? We should do something to prevent it from happening. I think we should start another JDL to protect ourselves from these antisemitic thugs!

In theory, it’s a good idea,

but, unfortunately we no longer have Rav Kahane ztzvk”l, or anyone with his charisma and ‘smarts’ to run it. Others have tried, after he was murdered, but none succeeded. Even his son Binyamin ztzvk”l, who, before his murder, tried to take over for his father, was not successful.

    So…

    What to do?

Aliyah. Yes, I know very well about Israel’s many faults and problems, but aliyah is STILL the best choice for us.

Not making aliyah? Get a gun permit, get a gun, and learn how to use it.

    Hi kfb.

My first reaction is to do so, 150%.

But I do agree with AinOhdMilvado. For some reason the success and greatness of the organization was only so when in the hands of the prophetic and great Rabbi Meir Kahane, ZATZAL.

Its almost impossible to get a Gun Permit and get a Gun in NYC.

Besides would you really want a gun in your house with 8 kids literally tearing your house limb from limb an finding everything

Wow. I can’t wait until we have the CR JDL. Is the policy here “open carry” or “concealed carry”?

Great idea. A group of people can charge the store owners a small “protection fee” to make sure no one smashes their windows. Oh wait…I guess we’re talking about the mafia

What precisely would you propose the JDL do -legally- that Shomrim arent doing already?

When one has nothing nice to say one shouldn’t say anything at all. Reason one for me not to comment.

Reason two, certain matters are better off not said/spoken about (nothing to do with reason one).

    Hi yngerman1.

Original JDL would complement Shomrim by taking things to a higher level of protection.

For starters, JDL would create a deterrence by a strong presence of individuals who would go into high risk areas on foot patrol. These individuals would be skilled, capable, and inclined to engage in self defense. This would be much like what is now taught in anti-bullying classes; strong presence and ability to physically defend. Such a presence is proven to work against criminals who are prone to, c”vs, assault, vandalism, mugging, theft, and burglary.

I liken their role similar to what we think of today with the Guardian Angels.

First of all we don’t need to own guns. I suggest we all have bats and do patrols around the neighborhood.

Yungerman1- Shomrim are great and I respect them very much, but do you remember 2 weeks ago when 5 cars were lit on fire with antisemitic words written all over??

kfb- I didnt say Shomrim were great, I just asked what else would you have them do. You didnt address the question.

BTGuy- Thanks for addressing the question. However, dont you find this statement ironic? “would go into high risk areas on foot patrol…and inclined to engage in self defense”? Stay out of high risk areas and they wouldnt need to engage in “self defense”.

Secondly, the recent incident in Highland Park, the torched cars in Flatbush, and the several swastika incidents all occurred in relatively safe neighborhoods, not high risk ones.

Why not discuss with Shmorim to increase their numbers and conduct additional patrols? Why the need for the JDL which doesnt have the greatest reputation?

Back in the day, the JDL was mostly a collection of teenage punks and Rambo wannabes. All mouth, no geduldt. Another obnoxious trait of the JDL was taking credit for the effort and results of other organizations. case in point, the JDL often took credit for the release of Soviet Jews. The real work was done by SSSJ and others who deserve the lion’s share of the credit for the success of the program. The extent of the JDL’s contribution to the struggle was to throw stink bombs at the Bolshoi ballet.

All the above is not to say that we don’t need a Jewish security apperatus. Such an organization, staffed and run by serious people, I.E. adults, could be useful in today’s world. Just forget the JDL.

As they used to say in Europe, “A yid geshmock darf hubben a Glock”!

I though the phrase was “every jew a 22”? But i’d prefer a Glock any day!

    kfb…

Bats are great if you’re going to a ball game, and yes, they CAN be used for self defense, BUT with all the home invasions these days, a firearm is the way to go.

    yungerman1…

R’ Kahane made up the slogan “every Jew a 22”, but if you search on google, you’ll find that he also (really) said “I would have said every Jew a 9 millimeter, but it didn’t rhyme!”

    zahavasdad…

While you are correct that it IS almost impossible to get a carry permit in NYC, you CAN get a premises (i.e. home) or a business permit for a handgun. Also, though it takes a little time, it is also quite easy to get a rifle/shotgun permit, which can really ruin any home invader’s day. Of course possessing a firearm does demand maturity, and learning how to safely use it and store it. A small price to pay to be able to defend your home and family.

    As the saying goes…

“When danger is seconds away, the police are only minutes away.”

There is a terrible thing going on in Ohio. Amish men and women are being attacked and forcibly having their hair cut, and then photographed in their unshorn state. I am not kidding about this.

It is a horrible crime, since Amish law and custom forbids men shaving after marriage and being photographed is consider an unacceptable act of pride.

What if this same thing were done in Boro Park?

Perhaps we should send the new JDL for a test run in Ohio?

yungerman1 -I’d take the 22 -Much easier to fire and conceal; but with all the crazy gun laws -don’t carry/own a gun. I talked about this many times. Even if you do a justified shooting in your own house and the Grand Jury that will be appointed finds you innocent, the perp or his family (if you got him between the eyes) will sue. They will bankrupt you just from having to pay lawyers to defend you, even if the suit doesn’t win! Do yourself a favor buy some Mace or pepper spray!

In Massachusetts, you can’t carry mace or pepper spray without a firearms license.

Ron – I live in Jersey & most posters here live in NY.

If I was a criminal -I’d move to Massachusetts. Land of the most insane libs. I guess when Kennedy was driving that girl into the water -he didn’t want anybody to stop him by spraying him with Mace, so they have this law about Mace. Talk about an upside world. Is self-defense a crime in Mass.? You probably have to let yourself be robbed, rather than fight back! Something that will trickle to our area, sooner or later, unless we eradicate these libs from our Gov.!
