What were your thoughts? I expected a little more oomph from Condi Rice, but I think everyone did a fantastic job. I found myself cheering and giving the thumbs up to my computer. I say well done!
August 31, 2012 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #894725kfbParticipantI think they all spoke incredibly well. I didn’t like how the New Mexican governor put some Spanish words in her speech. This is America! I think Christie spoke the best. Go Jersey!
August 31, 2012 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #894726zahavasdadParticipantAnd whats wrong with speaking Spanish, I can Speak Spanish somewhat (Not as well as english though)
There is no official language of the US
August 31, 2012 5:22 pm at 5:22 pm #894727kfbParticipantDon’t get me started zahavas dad. This is an English speaking country. If you want to speak Spanish go back to Mexico.
August 31, 2012 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #894728rabbiofberlinParticipantpaul ryan hands down….
August 31, 2012 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #894729MorahRachMemberOy. I hate when people say there is no official language in the US. There is an unofficial language and that’s English. Come on folks. I think that she was smart though because Romney does need the Hispanic vote and I think she will help draw some positive attention from the undecided Spanish voters.
August 31, 2012 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #894730MorahRachMemberYes i loved Ryan’s speech!
August 31, 2012 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #894731zahavasdadParticipantThis is an English speaking country. If you want to speak Spanish go back to Mexico.
Would you like to subsitute Yiddish for Spanish in that statement ?
August 31, 2012 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #894732TheGoqParticipantThe RNC put a leash on Gov. Christie and his speech was nothing special as a result, i thought Mrs. Romney spoke well but could have given us a little more detail on the good work her husband has done, I’m a big fan of Paul Ryan and thought he delivered a great speech.
August 31, 2012 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm #894733MorahRachMemberThere is nothing wrong with speaking Spanish. There is something wrong with only speaking Spanish, in America. I think that is KFB’s point.i also find it disturbing when I, for example, go to 6 flags and see huge groupss of chassidish kids who dont speak any English. Living in America you have an obligation to learn the language and contribute to American society.
Can we please get back on point, I did not start this thread with the intention of getting into a discussion about this.
August 31, 2012 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #894734MorahRachMemberI did not watch clint eastwood’s speech but I have read mixed things about it..
August 31, 2012 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #894735zahavasdadParticipantIts just funny how some get all bent out of shape on Spanish and then praise Yiddish.
Politicians visit many jewish areas for votes and if they want some of the Latino vote as well, they need to speak a little spanish to them.
August 31, 2012 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #894736MorahRachMemberI think Martinez gave a great speech, Spanish or no Spanish. I also think having Hispanic, African American female republican speak to at convention is a great way for some minorities to see a different, more accepting side of conservatives.
August 31, 2012 6:12 pm at 6:12 pm #894737icedMemberMitt Romney spoke powerfully and the best, hands down.
Yes, this is an English speaking country. Let’s keep it that way. No one spoke Yiddish at any political convention.
September 3, 2012 12:20 pm at 12:20 pm #894738kfbParticipantThat’s sucha stupid argument, let’s substitute yiddish for Spanish. How many illegal speak Yiddish compared to Spanish? Is Yiddish one of the most common language in the US or is Spanish? Are people scared that Yiddish could be come an official language of the US or is it Spanish?
September 3, 2012 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm #894739TheGoqParticipantIs anyone here going to watch the Democratic convention? i have no interest in anything they are going to say.
September 3, 2012 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #894740RebRYMemberHow can you compare Yiddish to Spanish? I have nothing against spanish people and I myself speak a little Spanish but Yidden have always spoke a language different from the goyim even in Mitzrayim they spoke their own language and was one of the things that saved them.
September 3, 2012 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #894741RebRYMemberAlso I personally don’t care what language the goyim speak here be it English or Spanish or what ever other language they want but for me Yiddish will always be the language that I perfer to speak.
September 3, 2012 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #894742zahavasdadParticipantOne can speak english with a “jewish accent” and I dont mean yeshivish either. If you are so concened about seperate jewish speech, you can speak with this accent. I do not have this accent, but many family members do.
I suppose you can speak Spanish, Hebrew , French etc with a similar accent, You can easily communicate with others and still keep your jewish identity.
English is the language of the world, Since I was born in the US I am biased toward English even though I can speak Spanish and Hebrew.
Yiddish is the language of the Ghetto and sounds like German and I dont care to speak like a German and all they have done.
September 4, 2012 3:38 pm at 3:38 pm #894743apushatayidParticipant“Would you like to subsitute Yiddish for Spanish in that statement?”
They speak yiddish in Mexico?
I liked Clint Eastwoods speech the best. He had nothing to say, and didnt take up more than 10-12 minutes not saying it, unlike some of the other speakers, who said essentially nothing and went on for 20 minutes or more.
September 4, 2012 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm #894744kfbParticipantThe only speech I’m going watch at the lib convention is Biden’s. I love hearing what that idiot has to say. He’s very entertaining.
