Why is it a holiday “given to the women”?
I feel as a Jew foremost, and a woman too I should know more about the history and the significance of this day that happens so many times in the year.
It comes straight from the Torah in parshas Bo and was the first mitzva given to klal Yisroel by Hashem while they were still in Egypt
‘WHY IS IT A HOLIDAY “GIVEN TO THE WOMEN”?’
because the women did not give away their gold earrings for the golden calf.
an extra korbon was brought in the bais hamikdash on rosh chodesh. for that we daven musaf on rosh chodesh (and yom tov).
Mishna Berura 417:1 with 417:1:3
“Why is it a holiday “given to the women”?”
My understanding is that Rosh Chodesh was given because the women in the midbar did not panic like the men who thought Moshe Rabbeinu had died, a time when things seemed really dark like the moon becomes dark immediately prior to Rosh Chodesh, and they refused to give over their gold. They continued to have faith that the light of Hashem’s promises would come. Due to this, Jewish women merit Rosh Chodesh, which stands at the doorway of the transition from the dark new moon to the bright full moon.
