I tried greek yogurt for the first time the other day and to my surprise it was actually decedent. however every time i open one a putrid smell of fish hits my nostrils,i can barely get past the smell and eat it. Is this normal or am I eating spoiled dairy products?!December 16, 2016 4:03 am at 4:03 am #1200634yehudayonaParticipant
Since a decedent is a dead person, it’s not surprising that your decedent yogurt smells bad, but it is surprising that it smells like fish.December 16, 2016 4:34 am at 4:34 am #1200635
Was it from goat milk?December 16, 2016 5:26 am at 5:26 am #1200636👑RebYidd23Participant
Greek yogurt should smell just like other yogurt.December 16, 2016 1:37 pm at 1:37 pm #1200637MenoParticipant
I eat greek yogurt every day and I have never had that experience.December 16, 2016 1:42 pm at 1:42 pm #1200638☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Do you keep it stored with stanky fish?
If not, that would explain it.December 17, 2016 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #1200639RookieRebbe613Participant
I’m not sure what’s wrong with your nose, but I know a great E.N.T who can help you on your mission to learning how to use the power of smell properly.December 18, 2016 12:24 am at 12:24 am #1200640
I Googled it and you aren’t alone. It is esp unique in smell when it’s goat’s milk.
Is there goat’s milk Cholov Yisroel?
It could be spoiled. Yet you said it tasted good.
Maybe you will grow accustomed to the smell. So much so that it becomes pleasureable.
Like how I now find the sulfuric smell of lit matches sweet. Probably because it reminds me of Shabbat candles and family.
Maybe eat more on Shabbat in good company. Perhaps you’ll associate the odor with happiness 🙂December 18, 2016 12:42 am at 12:42 am #1200641👑RebYidd23Participant
Yes, there is kosher Cholov Yisroel goat milk, and it is said to be easier to digest than other milk. But it doesn’t make sense for Greek yogurt to smell much different from other yogurts because Greek yogurt doesn’t contain anything that other yogurt doesn’t contain.December 18, 2016 8:37 am at 8:37 am #1200642hujuParticipant
Never eat yogurt in a fish store.December 18, 2016 1:54 pm at 1:54 pm #1200643
Are you sure the label says Greek Yogurt?
Perhaps you mistakenly purchased Reek Yogurt?
