Sadly terrible things are constantly happening in the Holy Land. The thing that gets me is that anyone who knows even a little Tanach is aware that all evil is a result of sin. Its a theme that runs throughout scriptures. We even say it twice a day in Shema. Its part of one of the thirteen basic principles of Judaism.

Yet whenever there is a terrorist attack or a natural disaster in Israel no one seems to think about why it was sent. And if someone suggests a possibility people jump on him as if he is out of his mind.

    Are we frauds?

A lot of us DO think about this every time there is a disaster. But we are not on the level to definitively associated particular sins with particular punishments today — we have no naviim. Better would be to search ourselves to see how we can each do tshuvah every time there is such a disaster — and every day there is not one, too!

charliehall – I agree with you. We don’t know why these things happen & our job is to search ourselves & see what each of us needs to do to improve.

Perhaps there weren’t enough flames from menorahs in Israel so Hashem had to light a flame.

    I agree with Charlie though.

We really dont know why any tragedy happens maybe some big Tzaddikim can be privy to such info, however unfortunately there are enough things going on that it can be anything. Eretz Yisroel is the Land of Hashem the land of Kedusha, the Land that Hashem is always looking at, any sins committed there are treated much more strictly than sins committed elsewhere as its like sinning in the Kings Palace. Theres so many unaffiliated Jews in Israel as well as a number of affiliated Jews not behaving correctly. Additionally all Jews are connected and Chas Veshalom the sins of Jews in one place of the world can cause tragedy in another place. Halevai we would be on the level that we do so few Aveiros that we could pinpoint what caused a tragedy!

When ever these things happen Hashem is trying to wake us up. However how many of us truly wake up? Even if we say a few Kappitlach Tehillim, is that it?! Is that all?! Are we now ok and able to go on with our lives pretending we care and we did our part? If we are not living how we should what good is our 2 Kapitlach Tehillim?! Hashem wants us to come close to Him, not to say 2 Kapitlach and go on with status quo and living mediocre lives.

Even if we cant do a total Teshuvah, at least start the process. Start doing something different. Work on Emunah and Bitachon. Start Davening to Hashem, pour your heart out, not just paying “lip service” plead with Hashem that He should help Klal Yisroel and that He should help you be a better Jew and serve Him properly. I really feel like Tefillah is an area that we are seriously lacking in.

All I really know is what I read on YWN. From where I live I can’t really see anything, but on the bus I could see the smoke.

One of the teachers told me he had a student this morning who is a former firefighter. He said since the smoke is now orange, and closer to the ground, it means the fire is worse today than yesterday.

I wish I had something more optimistic to report.

I understand that Russia (of all countries!) has sent a huge (747 size) tanker plane designed to douse the fire with flame retardant chemicals, and that be”H they expect things to be pretty well out, or at least well under control within the next 24 hours.

    AinOhdMilvado,

Russia experienced horrific fires this past summer that were hundreds of times more extensive than the one currently in Israel. I hope their experience proves valuable.

I don’t know why the fire happened, but I know that the owner of the site shabbat.com is trying to help the victums through hospitality etc. B’H May the unity bring blessing
