Why are there many Tzedaka organizations specifically in Israel that seem to do the exact same thing, give money and food to poor in Israel. So much money and resources are wasted to establish different organizations for no apparent reason.
March 2, 2016 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm #1140031JosephParticipantBecause there is a dire need for tzedaka that in unmet by any single organization.
The overhead of most of them are very little with almost the entire contributions going to the aniyim.

March 2, 2016 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm #1140033jazarParticipantBecause how am I supposed to know who to give to when there are so many organizations that do the exact same thing. It would make fundraising and donating so much easier to just combine them all
March 3, 2016 12:06 am at 12:06 am #1140034apushatayidParticipantAsk your Rav. I’m sure he would be happy to advise you how to distribute your tzedaka money.
March 3, 2016 12:17 am at 12:17 am #1140035JosephParticipantYou’ll end up giving cumulatively less if there was only one organization asking you for a donation rather than five asking.
March 3, 2016 8:53 pm at 8:53 pm #1140036lesschumrasParticipantJoseph, how do you know about their overhead ? What is the average per centage that goes to overhead?
March 3, 2016 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #1140037apushatayidParticipantregistered charities are supposed to disclose this info annually. you can look it up.
March 3, 2016 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #1140038lesschumrasParticipantI know, but did Joseph look them up bef OK re stating they had low overhead?
March 4, 2016 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm #1140039blubluhParticipantIn defense of the multiplicity of charities collecting for identical needs, one should keep in mind that as small as Israel (or any place, for that matter) may appear to be on a map, it’s really tough to physically reach out to a large percentage of its needy citizens.
Just like one needs local synagogues, schools, medical facilities, markets, etc, one needs local charities.
March 4, 2016 1:23 pm at 1:23 pm #1140040gavra_at_workParticipantJoseph, how do you know about their overhead ? What is the average per centage that goes to overhead?
The overhead gives the collector a job. Isn’t that also Tzedaka?
