Will Milchomos Gog U’Mogog be World War III?
Maybe. It could be WWIV if we don’t deserve it. It could also be the Arab spring if we do.

I’ve heard that the Chofetz Chaim said this about the World Wars
He couldn’t have said it about both because he passed away before WWII.
What i heard was that after WW I he said that this was the first of three battles, that there would be another one in about a few years and then a last one. Don’t quote me on those exact words.
Its possible that I might have seen this inside somewhere too, but I have a terrible memory.
Are there any interpretations of who gog and Magog will be?
When we were younger we thought it would be a nuclear war (c”v) between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.

The gemarah in megilah also mantions “Gemarmaya shel Adom” and the Sifsi Chachamim says there that it refares to Germeny.
Gog is the leader of Magog. A whole coalition of nations (mostly from the North) is going to come fight against the Jews of Eretz Yisroel.It is in the Nevi’im.
It is actually very clear from history and the details in that Gemara that the Gemara in Megillah (6b at the very bottom if I am not mistaken) is referring to the future Holy Roman Empire.
The Holy Roman Empire was essentially Germany.
Tums: The Holy Roman Empire became most of what is now Germany. The Gemara there also clearly predicts what would happen when the Empire united.

Holy Roman Empire Is Basically Germany , Austria and Prussia. Most of Prussia is NOT in Germany anymore.
There was a competition who would Germany re-unite under Austria or Prussia and Prussia was the winner and Austria was left out.
Germany was greatly shruken after WWI and WWII and much of prussia became part of Poland and Russia (Many Cities were known by German name now have a different name like Danzig which is now Gdansk Poland ) and Koningsborg which is now Kalingrad Russia
