“Simlascha Lo Balsa MeiAlecha; Your clothing did not wear out in forty years.” (Eikev 8:4) If Bnei Yisrael had everything they needed in the Midbar including food, shelter, and clothing how were they able to do the Mitzva of Tzedaka in the Midbar?

Rav Shimshon Pincus answers that in truth they could not do this mitzva. Why? “Tzedaka Tatzil MiMaves; If there is a decree on someone that he must die, giving tzedaka can abolish the gezeira.” Hashem was Gozer in the Midbar that the entire generation would die. Had there been the possibility of tzedaka it could have altered the plans, which was not the way Hashem wanted it. Therefore, Hashem made it impossible to give tzedaka, and the decree was carried through unimpeded.

Very nice. I heard that the b’nei Yisrael were saved from mitzraim in the zchus of tzedaka and the final geula will also be in the zchus of tzedaka.

Tzedaka is a mitzvah that everybody is capable of fulfilling to the fullest. There are many mitzvos that we unfortunately cannot do nowadays (korbanos, etc). Then there are other mitvos that we can do but not necessarily to the fullest. The mitzvah of tefillin for example is limited by money because you are limited to what you can afford, some people can buy the most mehudar, some can’t. But tzedaka, believe it or not, is not like this. The mitzvah of tzedaka is to give what you can in the best way possible. A rich g’vir and a poor ani can both fulfill the mitzvah the same. Therefore it is davka this mitzvah that will bring the final geula as it says “tzion bimishpat tipadeh v’shaveha bitzedaka”
