Will anyone else ever see the diary? If there is even a small chance someone will, it will be L”H.

Nothing is hidden from the Holy One Blessed be He.

Why train your mind to think lashon hara let alone write it? Not good.

After 120, your children will see it and find out all the wierd stuff about their in-laws or grandparents. Not a good idea.

Sometimes people write things in diaries to let off steam, If this is your reason its better to release your anger in a diary then let it out loud.

If you are concenred that someone might find it, write it in diary and when they steam passes and you are not upset anymore, you can always rip out the page

this is an interesting question. Cuz it is a good way to let off steam, but even if there’s no concern of others reading it, is there a problem of the writer rereading it later on? Zahavasdad- that sounds like a good idea, but to rip up my diary? Hm

Very intriguing question. Maybe you call up the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation and then tell us all what they say.

    btw i just gave u homework 🙂

If you are worried about ruining the diary because you ripped out a page, make a temporary page that you can easily tear up later if need be.

Bottling in anger can be a very harmful thing, and most of the time especially for teenagers its over stupidity. getting out that anger now in a way that can be discarded later is the best way to deal with it.

If you are trying to be fanatic, you are doing it all wrong. Making up halacha is non-fanatic, since it is assur to do so.

    Popa,

Since when is fanaticism based on halacha?

I would be surprised if there was a diary out there that hadn’t been read by the wrong person somewhere down the years. And chances are, if the person knows you, they may know people you have written about. I would use pseudonyms.

I have a dif question. What about saying LH about the diary

Why can’t you write all LHs you want in your diary, WITHOUT mentioning names. Or change tiny details to ensure that anyone reading it cannot figure out whom youre talking about.

pba: Explain how writing L”H somewhere others will see it, is not considered L”H.

How about you just give us a source that if you write something and there is “even a small chance” someone will see it, that you are over on LH?

Also, even if it would definitely be seen, it might still be muttar. IIRC, you are allowed to tell someone LH if you need it in order to vent your emotions. Since that is the reason people write in diaries, it sounds like it could work.

I’m not saying I know it is muttar; I’m just saying you are making stuff up.

My point is that if someone will see the written L”H, it is considered L”H.

As far as your venting point, that is not a broad based heter. You can’t, for example, write L”H on the internet to vent your emotions.

Maybe. But what is the geder of when you need to be concerned someone will see? I certainly don’t know. Why do you think it includes “even a small chance”?

i won’t weigh in on that part of the debate, but is there a problem of rereading an entry that is loshon hora yourself, at a later point? to hear the l”h anew, even if there’s no speaker? also i could hear its a problem to reawaken old hard feelings?

I would write my diary online on google drive if I wanted to keep it from prying eyes. That way I would have mine and my friends secrets password protected.

The next question is, could it be lashon Hara to read such diaries as, Megillas Eiva and many others?

SayaMe: “sadly i speak from experience when i say even your email may not be safe from prying eyes…”

But surely it’s safer than leaving a regular diary around, no?

If I saw a diary around, especially nowadays that nobody writes anything manually anymore, I would be so tempted to read it.

i dunno. I know i’ve come across an old diary of a sib. But i tore up n threw out my old one, and my current one, i dont think anyones read! And my other one is well hidden. My gmail ‘diary’ was gotten into tho. Also, more people can technically access gmail, more places you can forget to sign out of, vs the one tangible diary.
