Yeshivah in EY

This time of year, there are tons of threads that discuss dozens of seminaries and analyze every aspect of the EY sem experience. However, when it comes to up-to-date info about yeshivas and kollelim in eretz yisrael, there are barely any posts to be found. chaval.

To that end, I am actively looking for a yeshiva in eretz yisrael to go to next year(s), and hope to tap into the chochmah of the CR for that purpose. I want to go to a place that has serious learning and engaging rabbanim who can challenge me to lilmod, ulilamed, lishmor, velaasos. I want to be in an environment with bachurim who are very dedicated to torah and can grow with me in ruchniyus by learning like crazy and maybe even taking on chumrahs like no internet/music. I’m looking to hear shiurim in English or intermediate Hebrew, and to find a place located ideally in Yerushalayim or near a city like bnei brak or ramat beit shemesh.

I’d like to be able to stay in a beis medrash for two or more years, find a comfortable makom for myself, make meaningful friendships thru torah, and learn successfully at a high level all day and night- -no distractions (partying, girls, etc). I’ve seen enough of the outside world and its shtusim to know I should get away from it for a while lol. Who knows- I might even stay in beis medrash/kollel for many years!

Anyone know of a yeshivah that fits what im looking for? hashkafah-wise, I’m about modern yeshivish, but I really want to grow and take frumkeit/limmud torah seriously, in order to make these years count!

Look into a hesder place with an English speaking program. HaKotel, KBY, Gush, Maale Adumim. All reputable places.

sf- from what I’ve heard, gush and hakotel are great places, but I’m specifically looking for a more yeshivish, chareidi-leaning learning experience in eretz yisrael.

hi RF- I’d say if youre looking for a more yeshivish setting then go to TOMO. If you want an even more charedi setting, you can look at mercaz hatorah. Both have serious learning and personal growth environments.

If you want a more mixed black hat to more modern guys you can choose KBY or shaalvim. Both have serious learning and serious bochrim who are looking to become more frum and grow.

I’d recommend looking into Merkaz HaTorah.

thanks for the responses! I will definitely look into Toras Moshe and Merkaz Hatorah, as I’m leaning more to the black hat crowd. Vogue- I believe Ohr Somayach is a baal teshuvah yeshivah- are you thinking of a different one w/ same name?

Can anyone here vouch for these yeshivos from direct or indirect experience, and give me some more specific, enlightening info (e.g. kids, learning, hashkafah)? Or if you know of more options, that’d be great too.

Merkaz: the boys dont have to wear black and white during the week but wear black hats for davening.. on shabbos they all look like regular chilled out bochurim. they have very warm rabbeim and really teach the boys how to learn. they give the boys a cheshek to learn and show them an appreciation for torah. they know their clientele and relate well. they really care. its located in talpiyot away from all the business and distractions so if someone is looking to party they really have to go and do it, it wont be all around u.

One of my nephews started out in Yeshivah HaKotel and then he switched over to Bais Yisroel, which is in Neve Yaakov. Laherfeld is the Rosh Yeshiva as far as I know. He was there for about two years and did go to Mir after he got married and stayed on for another year or so. It’s a regular black/white yeshivah from what I could tell. Can give you phone number if you want and mods let.

I know some of the Rabbeim and many people who went to Mercaz and did very well and ended up in the Mir.

I would highly recommend it to you as a place for growth.

thanks keepitcoming and wiy! both of you mentioned mir- is there a point to me going there instead? I hear its big and easy to get lost in..

My son-in-law was in TOMO for a couple of years. He is an intellectual learner, very frum who pays alot of attention to hashkafa, not just straight learning. If you are really really bright this yeshiva has an edge, and if you are not, this yeshiva will help you grow in learning AND medos. FYI, he then went on to Lakewood, but he is not a “Lakewood Bochur type.”

The very bright, very frum from MO families are very comfortable in KBY & Shalavim. The boys going there are very, very, serious about learning, learning on a high level and forming keshers with their Rabbeim and Ram. Many are “black and white” but the Israelis there are just as frum, just as serious about their learning but are Chardal.

Three boys I know well went to those yeshivas and came out even more committed to hashkafa and to learning.

My Israeli nephews went to Shalavim for HS, post high school and kollel. They are Chardal, very frum, very dedicated to learning and earning (they now have large families) the boys I have seen from Shalavim and KBY are the best of the “black hat – upper shiur YU boys” alot of them also end up in Touro and Baltimore, NOT Lakewood.

rationalfrummie- I’d say do not start at the mir because you are probably looking for a smaller yeshiva why you can make a kesher with ur rebbeim.

I think any bochur under 20 doesn’t belong in the Mir because it’s simple huge and way too free and many bachurim go there too young or simply unready for the environment and instead of shteiging end up having a big yerida there. Even if you are 20 you shouldn’t go to the Mir unless you are ready for intense learning at a fast pace and you are going good with a serious group of learners. Mir is a place for established guys.

okay gotcha- thanks for the advice WIY and ourtorah.
