When I think of Yidden with goatees I think Yekke. No, not the hip styled type, more like a short or trimmed beard but the sides are shaved either all the way or most of the way, leaving a goatee look with long burns. If its done too “goatee” it looses the Jewish look. The “yekke” type looks like a beard but is also a goatee. It has a sophisticated and ethical look while at the same time gentle and friendly. Its hard to explain but if you know it, you will understand.

Why do (or did) yekkes go for this type of beard? Where does it come from? I always loved the look.

Just buy a Braun beard trimmer at the drug store for $45 or so and you don’t have to go anywhere. I enjoy my goatee, “yekke” or not.

It’s supposed to be a way of being well groomed without shaving off peyos hazakan, and without issues of beged isha.
