A Torah True proof that Yom Haatzmaut is min Hashamayim???
The letters ATBASH are an acronym for the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet AT = aleph/tav BASH = bes/shim, and ATBASH is a way of predicting when Jewish holidays will fall, based on Pasover
It works like this:
The first day of Passover (alef) and Tisha B’av (tav) always fall on the same day of the week.
The second day of Passover (bes) is always on the same day of the week as the following Shavuot (shin)
The third day of Passover (gimmel) comes out on the same day of the week as Rosh Hashana (resh)
With me so far?
Ok, the fourth day of Passover (daled) always falls on the same day of the week as Simchas Torah. This connection is a bit of a stretch, but daled corresponds to kuf, which is the first letter of the word Kriah “reading.” Simchat Torah, of course, is when the reading cycle begins again.
Now it gets a little better
The fifth day of Passover (hay) corresponds to the day of the week that Yom Kippur falls. Yom Kippur is a Tzom, which is how we tie in the letter tzaddi.
Day six (vav) and Purim (pay) are always on the same day of the week
And, guess what? Day seven (zayin) and Yom Haazamaut (ayin) also correspond.
April 25, 2012 5:10 pm at 5:10 pm #943775Sam2ParticipantYom Ha’atzma’ut is the same Gematria as Bittul Torah.
(That’s one of my favorite Gematriyos. Those who like Yom Ha’atzma’ut appreciate the irony and those who don’t like it love the Gematria for obvious reasons. So Yom Ha’atzma’ut really brings Achdus to K’lal Yisrael.
In a similar vein, someone once said that everyone should read Shir Hashirim on Yom Ha’atzma’ut. The Zionists because it contains the Passuk of Kol Dodi Dofek and the anti-Zionists because it contains Hishba’ti Eschem B’nos Yerushalayim. If only everyone could appreciate the Achdus possible on this day…)

April 25, 2012 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #943779akupermaParticipantReality. The Brits were bankrupt. They couldn’t use colonial troops in Palestine since they might pick up ideas to do the same thing – meaning most of the British army was tied up in Palestine. The Arabs were so racist they assumed they didn’t need to prepare for a serious war – when they attacked they brought bags to loot rather than extra ammunition. In arguing that the Israeli victories weren’t a miracle, the Satmarer Rebbe (the original) said the reason the zionists won was that the Arabs weren’t very good soldiers. No miracle.
April 25, 2012 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #943780ZeesKiteParticipantMore chumros: Yom Hazikaron, Yom haatzmaut… We’re told not to imbibe in chumros!
April 25, 2012 11:34 pm at 11:34 pm #943781HaLeiViParticipantAnd that explanation works very well for most wars in Tanach, as well.
Actually, in Al Hageula V’al Hatmura he doesn’t deny the Nissim.
By the way, there’s a lot more to a war than pow pow.
What’s wrong with being Makkir a Ness? Even Achav was saved with Nissim.
April 25, 2012 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #943782oomisParticipantthe zionists won was that the Arabs weren’t very good soldiers. No miracle. “
And clearly that was Ratzon Hashem, or it would not have been possible that so many Arabs would be end up to be such awful soldiers in the face of a tiny Jewish army. Wait – didn’t that happen before in Jewish history? I sure do enjoy them latkes!
April 26, 2012 3:04 am at 3:04 am #943783147ParticipantYoshChayal:- I already heard your wonderful explanation of “Ayin” & “Zayin” in a sermon on Yom ha’Atzmaut many many years ago, back in the 70’s. Hence you could not be more on the ball, in your assertion, of this wonderful Torah proof for Yom ha’Atzmaut.
All the more so, as we know, that all Sholosh Regolim have a corresponding Rabbinical Holiday. Chanukoh corresponds to Sukkos, as the Porei haChag go down, as do the # of candles according to Bais Shamai [Eilu vEilu Divrei Elokim Chaim]. Purim corresponds to Shovu’os, both being time of Kabolas hatorah. Yom ha’Atzmaut corresponds to Pesach, both being a time of Geuloh.
Your Gematriyos YoshChayal are awesome & very inspiring, and are further prove of the Divinity of this wonderful Chag.
As for your question HLeivi:- Absolutely!! My saintly Rosh Yeshiva who unfortunately was Niftor this past year at a ripe age, told me unequivocally, that one should absolutely be Makir tov to haShem for the Nissim, and to Medinas Yisroel, for having open their arms & borders to Jewish refugees. Hakoras Tov is a wonderful Midoh, which sorely was lacking from 24,000 pairs of students at this time of the year.
I wish you all Chag Sameach on this great day of Yom ha’Atzmaut:- This year 64= 8 squared:- leMa’alah Min haTeva Squared.
April 26, 2012 5:22 am at 5:22 am #943784ZeesKiteParticipantDoesn’t anyone sane here think there’s something extremely wrong here with equating this event instituted by mechalelei shabbos with the Yomim Tovim of HaShem, or of the ones created by anshei knesess hagedolah (nevi’im)?? Isn’t that going a bit too far? C’mon folks.
Oh, and that comment on the “something to think about” thread – “Sadly, Naturei Karta have chosen to severe themselves from the Jewish people.. but every other one of we authentic Jews have to unite on this wonderful auspicious moment..” I think is a great misconstruction, greatly fabricated.
No. The majority of K’lal Yisroel (In Eretz Yisroel and chutz la’aretz, follow true manhigim. True gedolei Yisroel. While it’s not our life’s focus to demonstrate, fight, burn flags, (shake hands with ..), we don’t buy into any of this zionist stuff. We see through this whole spiel. THAT IS THE MAJORITY of Torah true Jews. Does BMG hold a mesiba (r”l). Gur, Bobov, Viznitz hold a ticsh?!? Get real.
Why so few make such a “big deal” about it here, while the majority of Am HaTorah have very few posts here, is plainly simple – because they’re busy doing their duty! They’re either learning, davenening or busy with household – to be mechanech children al pi Torah. So they’re too busy to post. As opposed to silly little me.
April 26, 2012 5:23 am at 5:23 am #943785Avi KParticipantZeeskeit, it’s not a chumra. It is a chiyuv d’Oraita to thank Hashem for what He has given us.

We must give thanks and Hallel for those seen and unseen nisim that today we have a Medina even if is not perfect if it was perfect it would be already the time of geula for all

In all seriousness, if there was no Medina – Moshiach would probably be here by now and all of Klal Yisroel would be in EY -serving Hashem & keeping the Torah!

This line sounds strange
Anyway, it pushed back to Thursday this year so the atbash trick didn’t work.
On the other hand, the ayin could stand for Erev Tisha B’av

We absolutely have to be Makir Tov, that Medinas Yisroel is giving a safe haven & refuge to our brethren, be they Russians, Ethiopian or any other stateless Jew.
April 27, 2012 2:23 am at 2:23 am #943792HealthParticipantfar east -“health- i all seriousness i dont think the medinah is the reason moshiachs not here…”
Well I do!
“imho i would say the biggest reason is because of the sinas chinam between all the different groups of klal ysiroel!”
Right after WWII there was a big Achdus in Klal Yisroel, even people who were in the US during the war -felt very close to Jews from Europe. This Achdus was probably enough to bring Moshiach.
What did the Zionists do? They created a State. Not only did they make a Great Divide between Frum & Frey, they caused friction amongst the Frumme. Some people supported the State & others didn’t. If you think this is Esschalta D’geula you are very much mistaken!

I’m not a “lamdan” by any strech of imagination, but can’t we be medayek from the tur that there’s no significance to this day. Else he should have stated it!
April 27, 2012 2:30 pm at 2:30 pm #943794HaLeiViParticipantWhat we can be Medayek is that in order to use the Siman as a Raaya to the divinity of the day, we’ll have to assume that the day came before the Siman. That only works if the ones setting the date were Amei Ha’aretz and didn’t know the Tur.
Perhaps the Ayin stands for Am Ha’aretz.
