abeask911Participantnot so pashut: One may heal himself through doctors (who are messengers of God to heal), homeopathic medicine, herbs, etc. Though, people do not realize that it is God that is healing, these are not considered idol-worship or magic, being that no one worships the doctors or the medicine, and its system is explained in physical terms. We should refrain from using energy systems of healing, as it is specifically mentioned in “Orchat Rabenu” (R’ Y. Kanevsky) I, 290, that it is considered witchcraft, which is disallowed. However, if it is a matter of life and death, one may heal himself with anything, except with: murder, promiscuity, and idol-worship (and it seems that kinesiology is not idol-worship; not even a medical treatment, just a diagnostic tool) – (source: Talmud Pesachim 25a; “Code of Jewish Law” Y.D. 179:8). If the procedure can be explained in physical terms whereby it is clearly understood to be natural and not spiritual or magical, it is permissible – (source: “Igrot Moshe” by R’ M. Feinstein, Y.D. IV 13:1). There are other forms of healing which are similar, but are permitted, because they are genuine, physically comprehensible, and natural form of healing; such as: hypnotism – (source: “Binyan Tzion” by R’ Y. Ettinger, 67; “Igrot Moshe” Y.D. III, 44).
