“Calculated over 600,000 years. The rarest is miketz read 10.1% (when rosh hashana is shabnos and year is chaser.)

Pinchas is 10.6% (a leap year when rosh hashana ws Thursday)

Kedoshim is read 11.1 % of time

Tazria is slightly more at 16% (read in leap year when rosh hashana was shabbos or monday and year is chaser)”

This math has to be mistaken. Kedoshim can be read in one and only one type of year – A leap year with Rosh Hashana on Shabbos that is chaseir. Any other year, either acharei mos or kedoshim is either shabbos hagadol, rosh chodesh, or machar chodesh.

As many people have already said, Miketz is read on two types of years. When Shabbos is Rosh Hashana and the year is chaseir, regardless of whether it is a leap year or not, chanuka will start on Friday and Miketz will be the day after Chanuka.

If you were paying attention, you would have noticed that the only year we leign kedoshim is one of the two years we leign miketz. that means WHENEVER we leign Kedoshim, we leign Miketz, but we sometimes leign Mikeitz without Kedoshim. ubiquitin’s math comes out that Miketz is less common.

In my experience, it seems that while women prefer not to be surprised (often hinting or asking directly for what they want) most of the guys I know (including myself) would prefer to be surprised. I am of the opinion that the ideal gift should NOT be something the recipient NEEDS and definitely not something he would buy for himself. It SHOULD be something he wants and would enjoy, but would not buy. Either a keepsake (a personalized item with an engraving or picture) or a “toy” which depends on the recipient – alcohol and a nice meal were mentioned, but shouldn’t be repeated too often since a gift that remains for many uses gets more brownie points than a meal eaten only once. Some goods ideas are electronics (digital camera, flash drive, game) a tool for the handyman (be careful not to get him something he already has, or something for his desk to remind him of his family.

As usual, these chain hashgacha prutis emails rely on tedious mathematics to ensure that no fact checks them. The probility that 5 random digits add up to 26 is 1 in 20. For that to happen three times you just cube it to get 1 in 8000. (In fact the likelihood is better since the first digit it almost always zero.) That means it should happen once every 30 years or so. (thats 3 26s specifically, NOT 3 of any number which is obviously going to be more common,

I actually just donated blood for the first time a month ago… but more interestingly I was just contacted on Friday of Chol Hamoed with the news that I am a match for a 56-year-old woman with leukemia for bone marrow. I’ve noticed that this is not as rare as one would have expected in the Jewish commmunity (I know 3 other people who were discovered to be matches and ended up donating). They are going to call me back on Wednesday to work out the details, so I was wondering if anyone else has donated and knows what kind of issues I should be aware of/questions to ask.
