Petira Of The Satmar Rebbitzen A”H

YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of the Satmar Rebbitzen (Pesel Leah Teitlebaum) A”H, who was the wife of the previous Satmar Rebbe זצוקללה״ה, the Beirach Moshe.

As YWN had posted two weeks ago, the Rebbitzen, who had not been well for many years, had been taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan and her condition deteriorated.

She leaves behind her sons, which include both Satmar Rebbe’s (Williamsburg & Kiryas Yoel), daughters, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Levaya started at 6:00PM in Williamsburg, in front of the Satmar Bais Medrash on Rodney Street, followed by a Levaya in Kiryas Yoel at the Beis Medrash on Garfield Road. The Kevura will be in Kiryas Yoel.

Boruch Dayan Emmes…

NOTE: YWN apologizes for being unable to post this information earlier due to a technical issue which has since been corrected.

  1. BDE. The last of a generation of great rebbitzens from the old world. Does anyone know why the burial is not in EY?

  2. To Ani Oymer:

Yes, all of klal yisroel would wish for a reconciliation between Zalman and Aron but it will never happen. There is too much bad blood and hatred between the two kehillahs and unfortunately, even the z’chus of the rebbitzen is not enough to overcome the past. There is no way they can sit shivah together when their chassidim fight over who can even be buried in their cemetary.

  3. #1

Both her uncle the V’Yoel Moshe & her husband The Bairach Moshe are buried in Kiryas Yoel.

Her uncle the v’Yoel Moshe was very much against delaying Kvura for burial in eraetz yisroel. He did not think burial in Eretz Yisroel was meant for everyone.

  4. #2 I Couldn’t agree more

we need the gedolim to set an example for the rest of klal yisroel whose families are in machlokes…

  5. I agree with #2! It’s during the 3 weeks. Do something real for Klal Yisroel and put aside the institutionalized machlokes once and for all. The Yetzer Horah has had such a strangle hold on all these “frum machlokes”.

  6. If both Satmar Rebes, Reb Ahron and Reb Zalaman would sit sit Shiva together, they surely will hasten the arrival of MOshiach!

  7. Sadly number two has a point. I once heard from a prominent Rosh Yeshiva and member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah (I don’t know if he would want his name mentioned so I’ll leave it out) that both Rebbes are l’shem Shamayim people. When I then asked what could be done to make peace between them, he answered with one word, “Moshiach”. They are both very big people with enormous merits who have done enormous good, so why look at the less than good side of the situation. Let’s do our part to bring peace and every day think of one thing we can do to bring Moshiach. One suggestion is to put a lot of kavana in answering Amen to the part of Kaddish that says “V’yekarev Moshichei,” and also into saying the brocho “Matzmiach keren yeshua” and answering Amen to it. Work on that every day starting now, it won’t hurt.
