President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is suspending all travel between the U.S. and Europe for 30 days beginning Friday as he seeks to combat a viral pandemic.
Trump made the announcement in an Oval Office address to the nation, blaming the European Union for not acting quickly enough to address the “foreign virus” and saying U.S. clusters were “seeded” by European travelers.
“We made a lifesaving move with early action on China,” Trump said. “Now we must take the same action with Europe.”
Trump said the restrictions won’t apply to the United Kingdom and the U.S. would monitor the situation to determine if travel could be reopened earlier.
Trump said he was also directing agencies to provide unspecified financial relief for “for workers who are ill, quarantined or caring for others due to coronavirus,” and asked Congress to take action to extend it.

Trump said the U.S. will will defer tax payments for some individual and business filers for three months to lessen the impacts of the virus outbreak. He said the Small Business Administration will also make low-interest loans available to businesses to help them weather the storm.
“This is not a financial crisis,” he said. “This just a temporary moment of time that we will overcome together as a nation and as a world.”
Trump also reiterated his call on Congress to pass a cut to the federal payroll tax in order to stimulate the economy.
Trump said “we are marshaling the full power” of the government and private sector to protect the American people.

Thank you Thank you Boris Johnson for having pushed thru Brexit and sparing we Britons from this unprecedented travel ban for Europeans to the USA.
We are so glad to have been weaned of the EU and their problems, and never in our wildest dreams expected such a huge advantage from Brexit so imminently.

It is only travel to the US by Europeans that is restricted. American Residents may fly back to the US from the EU.

In the meantime, we do not have the ability to test in any meaningful way. Since January little progress in this area has been made. South Korea is testing 10,000 people a day. Eliminating the agency for such emergencies by this administration can not be ignored either. And going golfing during a pandemic also sends the wrong message.

Yeah, so true, how sad it is that the Democrat’s championing of (and bribery by) China has placed so much of the US, including its medical supplies, unto the hands of the West-hating China government. There is even a video out where then-President Obama himself gave a speech on how Chain will “have our backs” if it comes to such an emergency. We now see how ell that worked out. But it is very comforting that the Trump administration has championed US-production and in due time will bring such capabilities back to the US.
I don’t understand “wrong message”. Seems to me it is the correct message. He can’t and won’t do “everything”. He is not a Messiah (contrary to way Obama seems to have wanted himself seen). That is the most important message He banned travel regarding China early on and was mercilessly castigated as”racist” and “xenophobe” (mainly by Democrats and their leftist media). To this day Democrats (a speech from Bernie Sanders aside) refuse to allow true investigation into China as the source of this problem. The House and Senate (Democrats) can either get to work on the issues instead of wasting everyone’s time and resources on their next impeachment attempt and on protecting. China . Or else things will fall apart as Trump rightly is showing that he has done his part, let them do their part.

Before I give Boris Johnson and Brexit credit for the UK being excluded from the Europe travel ban, I would point out that it is also where Trump has 3 resorts. A travel ban to the UK would hurt his businesses. Hence, no ban there.

You hit the nail on the head. The lack of test kits is the biggest problem right. Testing is how China brought the virus under control and how South Korea kept it under control. the Europe travel ban does little when there are already hundreds, and possible thousands, already exposed in the US. It’s just Trump pretending that he’s acting tough while blaming his own mess ups on someone else.
