New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine on Friday signed into law a bill that makes using a hand-held cell phone a primary offense. The law also makes it illegal to send a text message while driving. The fine for talking while driving is $250 and $100 for texting.

I would think that texting would be a worse violation. After all, you have to look away from the road to type, but you can keep your eyes on the road while talking on a handheld cellphone.
Unless, not to be cynical over here, but there are probably more talking violations than typing violations, and that means more money for the state.

IMO-thats a little backwards-you have to look down to type-while talking, at least you can keep your eyes on the road…

What a miserable sick hypocrite Corzine is. What causes accidents is driving at 90 mph down a freeway, moron. Stop finding creative ways to tax us and use the excuse for the safety of the public when you yourself put others in danger and got away with it scott free.
Its high time these corrupt politicians stop their hypocrisy.

NJ.com and the Asbury Park Press website are both reporting that the fine for talking on the phone while driving is $100 as well.
