NYC hate-crime complaints have surged by 20% this year – with anti-Semitic incidents spiking 36% in the last 90 days, the NY Daily News reports. The rising hate crimes prompted City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to muster support for a citywide “Day Out Against Hate” on Nov. 29, when at least one public event will be held in each borough.
Deputy Inspector Michael Osgood, commanding officer of the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force, told a Council oversight hearing that 260 hate-crime complaints have been filed this year – a 20% jump over the same period last year.
