Felder: Register Now For Presidential Primary

felder.jpgCouncil Member Simcha Felder is working with the NYC Voters Assistance Commission (VAC) to remind eligible city residents to register to vote in time for the upcoming Presidential primary. The upcoming presidential primary is on February 5th, a month earlier than the early March primary dates from previous years. As a result, the January 11th deadline to register for the 2008 primary is the earliest it has ever been.

Council Member Felder, Chair of the Council’s Governmental Operations Committee, along with his colleagues including Council Member Darlene Mealy (D-Brooklyn) and Council Member Leroy Comrie (D-Queens), are organizing voter registration drives throughout their districts and working with VAC to ensure voter registration drives throughout the City start earlier.

“Voting is an important civic responsibility of all Americans. It would be tragic if someone were unable to vote because they were unaware of the new voter registration deadline,” Felder said.

In order to be eligible to vote in the Presidential primary in New York City, you must be an American citizen, be a New York City resident for at least 30 days, and be at least 18 years old by February 5th, 2008. Voter registration forms can be picked up in local Council Members’ offices or by visiting http://vote.nyc.ny.us. The NYC Voters Assistance Commission can assist anybody with questions at (212) 788-8384, or by visiting http://www.nyc.gov/html/vac.

  1. I agree with Commenter No. 1.

BiMechilas Kvodo of Hon. Simcha Felder, it will not be “tragic” if we do not vote, considering the low quality of most of the presidential candidates.
