MAILBAG: Anti-Semitic Cashier In NJ “Dollar Tree” Store

Dear YWN,

I wanted to let your readers know of the following disturbing incident.

I was shopping in Dollar Tree located at 67 St Georges Ave, Roselle, NJ Oct. 7. While on the line to pay, there were 2 adult customers before me on line that weren’t wearing any masks at all. The Cashier, “Joan” totally ignored the fact that they weren’t wearing a mask.

At the same time, a Jewish family was checking out at a nearby register and the entire family aside for their 3-year-old child were wearing masks. My cashier “Joan” immediately ran over to the other register (while keeping me waiting) and told the other cashier to make sure that the 3-Year-old child puts on a mask.

When I commented to “Joan” why she’s only requesting a mask from a Jewish 3-year-old child (at another checkout lane) while not caring about the 2 non-Jewish individuals who checked out at her register she lied and just said “They were wearing masks”.

I then asked her for her name so I can report her to her superiors and she refused to provide it. Only after pressing her for her name did she tell it to me.

After checking out, I told her (Joan) that Anti-Semitism is not tolerated in this country. She then yelled after me “Stupidity is not tolerated in this country”.

Name withheld upon request.

  1. In this great country, where we are privileged residents, bigotry and prejudice are reviled. But at the same time, and lest we forget as we wallow in our comfort and prosperity, Halacha hi hi beyadua, Esav sonei lYaakov. And since that is universally axiomatic, this site should not encourage ppl to overtly fight and challenge what they perceive as antisemitism. Unfortunately, the issue of covid protection has nothing g to do with singling out Yidden, but there are way too many attitudes and responses fanning a fire of anti-semitism. The virus loves all mankind alike -be they yellow, white, tan or brown. Be they educated or illiterate, rich or poor, kind or indifferent

  2. Before you pay a bus fair to have the Jewish Al Sharpton scream Yiddish obscenities, please realize that many “out of town” communities discouraged New Yorkers from joining them for שמחת תורה, or at least required a Covid test. Turns out that fears of a “second wave” were well placed, and people want to avoid the distaster that occured on Purim, when people carried the pandemic to Jewish communities nationwide. In fact, doesnt NY still have a mandatory quarentine in place for people traveling to certain places out of state?
Point is, “Joan” may have recognized the first 2 customers as locals, but may not have known the Jewish customers, or they had traveled to “red areas” recently.

  3. You should call and report this cashier:

Thanks for being “MELAMED ZECHUT” on a goy. Time though to take your head out of the sand. Like we say in ISRAEL “Rosh Katan” Or, better, ROSH BA’KIR – TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE WALL OR SAND! Please… Thanks!
