MUST LISTEN: Harav Moshe Aharon Ehrenfeld On The Shidduch Crisis: Are We Repeating The Tragedy Of Yiftach?

  1. Allot of interesting points. I happen to be Modern Orthodox and, in our world, we want our children to be married your statements are offensive.

  2. You don’t need to agree with every part of the solution to admit that the current system is causing immense pain. Ignoring the issue because the fix is uncomfortable is not an option.

  3. This isn’t about hashkafah, it’s about basic rachmanus. If you’ve seen what this system does to wonderful girls and their families, you know something has to change — and soon.

  4. @Flatbush Tzadik:
Not sure what you found offensive. He never claimed that “Modern Orthodox” parents do not want their children to be married. Of course they do. He simply implied that some “Modern Orthodox” girls – not parents – choose to delay getting married due to career or other reasons.

  5. Important to note that this lecture was said back in April when there was seemingly a consensus among the American gedolim that the age gap was the leading cause of the crisis and that there was a need to bridge the gap. Not sure if Rav Ehrenfeld would say this today. Perhaps the gedolim changed their mind. However, the pain that he expresses is timeless just not sure if we know what to do about it other than storm the gates of heaven

  6. It’s clear from the speech that what the Rabbi meant to convey was that for MO woman career is a important part of their feeling accomplished in life vs yeshivish woman working is only to help their husband in torah and to have the means to raise a family and the pain and shame is therefore much more intense
