Sullivan County Sheriff’s Arrest Arsonists in Rosh Hashanah Fire

arrest1.jpgThe Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in an apparent arson fire that occurred in Lake Kiameshia last week.

On Wednesday October 1, 2008, at about 4:40 PM, the Monticello Fire Department was sent to a fully involved structure fire at the Lakeside Village bungalow colony on the Concord Road in the Town of Thompson. The fire department battled the blaze for more than two hours.

The Sullivan County Bureau of Fire sent investigators to the scene who determined that the fire was intentionally set. Sheriff’s detectives picked up the case from there and conducted extensive interviews in the neighborhood.

Sheriff Mike Schiff says eyewitness accounts and evidence at the scene led Detective Don Starner to the suspects, who turned out to be two boys, ages 14 and 7.

Both suspects, who’s names are being with held because of their ages, reside in Lake Kiameshia.

They were both charged with the felonies of Burglary 3rd degree and Arson 3rd degree, and released to their parents for a future appearance in Family Court.
