The forecasts called for major snow — and they were right on target.

More than a foot of snow has already fallen in parts of New York City, with even higher totals on Long Island and along the Jersey Shore. Snowfall rates peaked at up to 3–4 inches per hour, with wind gusts topping 50 mph creating near-whiteout conditions.

⚡ Nearly 400,000 customers across the Northeast are without power as of 6:30 a.m.

🚫 NYC remains under a mandatory citywide travel ban until 12:00 p.m. Only essential workers and documented emergencies are permitted on the roads. Violators face fines and towing.

🚨 New Jersey remains under a state of emergency, with hundreds of schools closed and a travel ban on non-essential vehicles extended through noon.

• Central Park: 15+ inches as of 7:00 a.m. — most from a single storm in over 5 years
• Snowiest single storm since 17.4 inches fell in early February 2021
• NYC now at 37.4 inches for the season — snowiest winter since 2020–2021
• Most of this winter’s snow came from just two storms (11.4” last month + this storm)
• Additional accumulation possible through early afternoon

• Islip: 22.5”
• Newark: 18.3” (biggest storm there since 2016)
• LaGuardia: 15.1”
• JFK: 15.0”

Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and allow plows and emergency crews to continue operations safely.
