Bush admin: We will fight mass testing for mad cow disease

mad cow.jpgAccording to the Associated Press, the Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meat-packers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease. The Agriculture Department currently tests less than 1% of slaughtered cows for the deadly disease. The Agriculture Department argued that widespread testing could lead to a false positive that would harm the meat industry. U.S. District Judge James Robertson noted that Creekstone sought to use the same test the government relies on and said the government didn’t have the authority to restrict it.

  1. I don’t understand why this would be a problem for people who keep kosher. If there are any talmidei chochomim out there who know more about this issue, please blog in. I want to be educated as to all sides of this issue.

  2. Boy am I sure glad I finished eating the tongue that my shvigger prepared last shavous last week!

  3. It truely is a great picture! But I don’t understand the cheshbon. So what if there will be some false positives. Maybe we should be worried about false negatives. Plus how could the testing give the meat industry a bad rap? If anything if people see how concerned they are with the health of the meat they will be very greatful. That is if they actually take that affected meat off the market. Whats the cost of the meat industry loosing a few dollars to the lives of people?

  4. Am glad the Bush administration finally found an issue to stick their necks out for. This might be their legacy.
