High Court Releases ‘Price Tag’ Suspects

Despite almost daily arrests by authorities seeking to apprehend those responsible for the so-called ‘price tag’ attacks, it appears the state simply lacks credible evidence to build a case.

Supreme Court Justice Yitzchak Amit on Sunday, January 15, 2012, rejected a state prosecutor’s request to hold suspects pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, and five suspects who have been in custody have been ordered released, to the dismay of the prosecutor and police. They were ordered immediately released to house arrest.

The court added the charges against the defendants are indeed serious an alleged organized premeditated operation against the IDF and other state agencies, including a Trojan horse in the IDF.

Nevertheless, the five suspects were ordered released to house arrest under the conditions set forth by District Court Justice Chana Ben Ami, who stated they cannot have any cellular or other communications device and they must put up bail in the amount of 10,000 and 15,000 NIS per person.

Attorneys of Honenu released a statement to the media indicating that once again it appears the prosecution has climbed up a high tree and is now looking for the way down. Honenu continues to criticize police, pointing out that the overwhelming number of people arrested for their alleged connection to price tag attacks has been released due to lack of evidence.
