Low-Cost Airlines Soaring Above The Rest, Survey Finds

A new survey finds air travelers are spurning bigger airlines for smaller ones largely because of baggage fees.

The JD Power and Associates survey shows travelers preferred low-cost airlines over traditional carriers for the third straight year.

According to the findings, fees for checked bags continue to be a sore point among customers.

It notes the two highest scoring airlines — JetBlue and Southwest — do not charge for the first checked bag.

It also shows traditional airlines are struggling to meet customer demands of low prices and high quality.

JetBlue ranked highest among low-cost carriers for the seventh straight year, while Alaska Airlines ranked highest among traditional airlines.
