London: Orthodox Jewish Schools Facing Closure For Refusing To Teach Children About Toeiva Subjects

A private Orthodox Jewish elementary school called the Vishnitz Girls School in Hackney, north London, is facing closure by the British government because it does not include curriculum that teaches children about Toeiva marriage R”L and ‘gender identity.’

According to Heat Street, a report by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Schools (Ofsted) says that the Vishnitz Girls School does not teach its 212 attending children — aged three through eight — “a full understanding of fundamental British values.”

The report explained that the girls “are not taught explicitly about issues such as ‘Toeiva marriage.’ This restricts pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and does not promote equality of opportunity in ways that take account of differing lifestyles.”

It added that school administrators “recognise the requirement to teach about the protected characteristics as set out in the Equality Act 2010. However, they acknowledge that they do not teach pupils about all the protected characteristics.” (Particularly those relating to ‘gender identity and Toeiva marriage.’) “This means that pupils have a limited understanding of the different lifestyles and partnerships that individuals may choose in present-day society.”

Heat Street reported that the school has defiantly resisted the British government’s attempt to force its views on the school’s children, and has failed its Ofsted inspection three times since February 2016.

According to Schools Week, Vishnitz was not the only religious private school to fall short of the Ofsted checklist standards. Three schools have seen their Ofsted grades drop due to “lack of progress for pupils.” Bnos Zion of Bobov, also in Hackney, failed the Ofsted inspection because the school made “no reference to protected characteristics” for Toeiva marriages and gender identity.

According to British regulations, private schools that do not meet the Ofsted standards will have their school taken off the independent school registrar, which means that it will be a criminal offense for them to stay open.

Gill Robbins of Christians in Education, a pro-religious campaign group, wrote that despite school having a stellar reputation, a well rounded staff, and enthusiastic students, the Ofsted test proves that British laws for schools are “hierarchical,” with homosexuality and the transgenderism at the top, and religious belief taking a back seat.

  1. There is a large “toieva” presence in Israel (Tel Aviv) as well.

If the school intends to prepare its students for life in society it is my opinion they should teach them about the people they will coexist with. Depriving them of knowledge is neglect.

  2. ….nah, some doofus askan will pretend that the gedolim want yidden to stay in Britain, just like they “want” yodden to stay in France.

  3. Considering this a country that only recently allowed Jews civil rights, and has a long history of anti-semtism, this sholdn’t be surprising. In America, as long as the Democrats aren’t in control, this is unlikely to happen here. However it would not be covered by the First Amendment (under a Democratic/Liberal interpretation). It does suggest that in countires with strong gay rights movements, the future for Orthodox Jews is bleak, and we should be looking for where we move next (unfortunately, Eretz Yisrael’s government is strongly pro-gay, so that won’t be an alternative absent a revolution).

  4. Classic leftist behavior of shoving their beliefs down everyone’s throats and forcing everyone to support their liberal causes. It seems from their words if you don’t accept these toeivas then you are “morally and spiritually undeveloped” … Disgusting and backwards people.

  5. In case you were wondering why Brits keep getting hit lately, here is the answer – homosexuality and the transgenderism are at the top of fundamental British values!

  6. The whole western world in general and UK in particular is one big rotting corpse. No wonder they are being attacked by Muslims that like maggots attracted to on rotten meat.

  7. The UK doesn’t have a first amendment, and in Europe in general, the community rights are more important than individual rights. The same thing happens in the Haredi community as well. How many times have you heard of things which are muttar being forbidden because it “leads to other things”? I study karate in a religious community with an all religious and all male group. There is one Haredi student who comes in secret. His yeshiva or anyone in the community cannot hear about him studying karate because they would kick him out. The UK is doing the same thing, but with their agenda. Stand up for individual liberty before demanding it from others.
