Bibi: I Will Never Abandon The Golan Heights

Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday 28 Tishrei 5773 categorically denied a Yediot Achronot report that the prime minister in 2010 along with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, was willing to order an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights in a peace agreement with Syria.

According to a report appearing in Yisrael HaYom, the prime minister states that for as long as he is the prime minister, there would never be an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights. This statement is in line with comments to the media made by Defense Minister Barak following the release of the report. Barak stated that to the best of his knowledge, the prime minister was no on board and he was unwilling to cede the Golan Heights as part of efforts to remove Syria from the ‘axis of evil’, its deep-rooted connection with Hizbullah and Iran.

Barak told Israel’s Channel 2 “Meet the Press” that the Americans were testing Israel, wishing to ascertain Jerusalem’s willingness to be part of such a process.

Barak explained that if it was possible to cut Syria from the axis of evil it would have justified weighing many options towards accomplishing such a goal, which would have significantly contributed to Israel’s security.

  1. Only a fool would believe Netanyahu’s denial. This is not the first time and not the second time. He made the offer, and Baruch Hashem he was forestalled by the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. Otherwise there would be people on the heights now, firing down on the Galil ch”v
