Israel Traffic Police Getting Tougher on Chronic Offenders

Israel Police Traffic Division Commander Bruno Stein has decided to crack down on repeat offenders, drivers who simply refuse to get the message, those who endanger the lives of others by their reckless driving habits.

Stein is adjusting the nation’s traffic cameras to single out drivers apprehended driving twice the permitted speed or faster, as well as drivers who have been apprehended repeatedly while driving erratically and placing others at risk. These motorists will be placed under arrest, interviewed and automatically remanded to a five-day house arrest, hoping this deterrent will act towards persuading them to change their ways.

That means a motorist photographed driving 180KPH on a road with a maximum speed limit of 90KPH will automatically be sent to house arrest for five days. Stein explains that he is using the authority that officers have, to send a suspect to a five-day house arrest in the hope of removing such drivers from the nation’s roads.
