Cheney Raps US Mideast Policies In NY Appearance

Former Vice President Dick Cheney tells a New York business group he is concerned that United States Middle East policy appears to be one of withdrawal from engagement.

Cheney made his remarks during an interview Thursday before about 1,000 people at a luncheon sponsored by the Long Island Association.

LIA President Kevin Law conducted the interview on a variety of topics. Cheney has previously spoken about many of the issues, including the events of Sept. 11, the decision to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He expressed concern for a stronger U.S. policy toward Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

He said many of the Arab Gulf states share Israel’s view that a nuclear Iran would further destabilize what he calls a “very dangerous and increasingly volatile part of the world.”

  1. Why does anyone care what the former (vice?) president has to say? His administration got the US entangled in 2 wars that accomplished nothing and cost gazillions of dollars and comparable amounts in the blood and bodies of many loyal and dutiful Americans. It is a disgrace that he would even poke his head out in public.

  2. You are a real zed, a zonov lashu’olim. We care what Cheney has to say because he’s a wise and experienced man who cares about America, unlike the current administration. You say the war accomplished nothing?! We were attacked, what should we have done? Thanks to Bush and Cheney, the Taliban are no longer running Afghanistan, al Qaeda no longer has free reign to run training camps there, and Saddam Hussein is no longer funding terrorism abroad and feeding Iraqis into plastic shredders. Is that not a wonderful achievement? And the cost, in both money and lives, has been very low compared to any other war. It’s been well worth it. If we weren’t spending so much on nonsense and welfare the budget would be in excellent shape.
