Israeli Imprisoned in China for Shoplifting Sunglasses

An Israeli female has been imprisoned under harsh conditions in China since being arrested in October 2012 for allegedly stealing a pair of designer sunglasses from a store valued at $800.

According to a Channel 2 News report, the imprisoned Israeli is compelled to sleep on the floor along with 16 other prisoners and her conditions are a far cry from the most minimum of acceptable standards.

Chabad Shaliach Rabbi Eli Rosenberg reports he is working to monitor the young lady’s condition and doing his utmost to assist, but all efforts to obtain her release have failed.

The family hired local attorney David Buxbaum, and he too has failed to date to obtain her release despite offers to pay for the sunglasses and make compensation despite the fact the prisoner did not take anything from the store as is alleged.

The young lady’s trial is scheduled to get underway in about a month.
