Rocket Strike During Lag B’Omer Bonfire in S. Israel


kasAs children and adults in the S’dot Negev Regional Council were enjoying Lag B’Omer bonfires on motzei Shabbos, sirens sounded signaling an incoming rocket attack. A Grad katyusha rocket slammed down in an open field a short time later. B’chasdei Hashem there were no fatalities or injuries.

On Thursday there were two additional rocket attacks and for southern area residents, it is clear that the deterrence achieved in Operation Pillar of Defense is a thing of the past and intermittent rocket fire is now part of their lives, once again. Recently, rockets were also fired into Eilat. Once again, there were no fatalities or injuries. While Egyptian officials insist the rockets were no fired from Gaza, Israel does believe that was the case and an additional Iron Dome rocket defense system was put into place to provide additional coverage to that area.
