Reverse Flotilla Underway to Break Israeli Marine Blockade on Gaza

ywnisrael.israelWhat has been dubbed the “reverse Gaze flotilla” has left a Gaza port and is heading west in an effort to break the Israeli marine blockade on Hamas ruled Gaza. In the past such efforts headed from outside Gaza in the hope of entering but his time around, the direction is reversed.

PA media reports say the people on the boats are calling themselves the Young Gaza Intifada, and they hope to travel past the territorial limit for Gazans set by Israel. As in the past, Israeli officials expect members of the press and foreign nationals to be part of the flotilla towards complicating the event for Israel as much as possible, realizing the goal is to bring their effort to the forefront of the international diplomatic community.

While this is unconfirmed by officials Israeli sources, PA media sources report the boats have left Gaza today, Monday, 29 Kislev 5774.

  1. Beyond preventing entry of military supplies (or personnel), Israel has no reason to blockade Gaza. On the contrary, it should be doing everything to make Gaza more prosperous so the Palestinians have an incentive not to get into a war.

For years the Arabs tried to enforce a boycott of Israel – and the result is that Israeli industry thrived, in part since they could safely ignore the intellectual property of any country that was partricipating in the boycott (e.g. Israel could make generic drugs without paying royalties to the patent holder).

  2. aku: not a chance. A prosperous Gaza will have more money to wage war. Arabs want to destroy Israel, rich or poor.

On the second point–completely incorrect. Generic drugs’ patents have expired, therefore no “royalties” are due.
