Bennett Defends the Chief Rabbis Against Lapid & Stern

bennMinister of Religious Services Naftali Bennett is calling for unwavering support for the Chief Rabbis of Israel, both under attack for announcing they accept the long-standing psak Halacha prohibiting women from serving in the IDF. Bennett reiterates his position that every female must serve in the IDF or an approval national service. The minister however is not comfortable with the harsh criticism being leveled at the chief rabbis, explaining “I believe we must permit them to express their opinions and not to silence them. Calling for their dismissal over a psak you do not agree with does not work for me.”

Bennett explained he the rabbonim expressed their opinion and everyone has the option of following it or not. “I will not permit the State of Israel to become the only nation in the world in which a chief rabbi is fired for announcing his Halachic ruling.”

  1. Don’t agree with Bennett that often, but “I will not permit the State of Israel to become the only nation in the world in which a chief rabbi is fired for announcing his Halachic ruling.” is just a perfect response!
